Usually, yes. YouTube’s published membership rules do not identify a live stream’s uptime as a condition of recurring membership billing. A stream can go offline while the channel’s membership feature and members’ paid subscriptions remain active. That is not a guarantee that every outage is harmless: membership billing or access can be paused or ended for other reasons.
Membership payments and live-stream ads work differently
A YouTube channel membership is a recurring monthly payment for channel perks, such as badges and emoji—not payment for each minute a particular stream is live. YouTube describes memberships as recurring billing governed by its Commerce Product terms and monetization policies.

Live-stream advertising is a separate revenue source. An unavailable stream removes the live opportunity for ads while it is down, and even on an eligible, monetized live stream YouTube does not guarantee that an ad slot will serve. An online status alone does not establish that ads ran or that they generated earnings.

What can pause or end membership billing
Although stream uptime is not listed as a membership billing condition, YouTube documents other channel and membership states that affect billing or access:

- Paused mode: Membership billing, billing cycles, and access to perks are paused; the channel cannot monetize with memberships or deliver perks during this state.
- Memberships turned off: Turning off memberships cancels members’ recurring payments. If memberships are enabled again, viewers must choose to join again.
- Membership access lost or channel terminated: Recurring payments and access to perks end immediately.
- A member cancels: The member is not charged again, but retains access to the badge and creator perks through the end of the current billing cycle.
YouTube describes membership billing periods as 28, 30, or 31 days, depending on the calendar month. Its guidance says creators receive 70% of membership revenue after applicable taxes and fees are deducted; that published share is not a prediction of an individual creator’s net earnings.
How to check what is happening on your channel
- In YouTube Studio, open Earn → Memberships and review the membership tab for member counts, cancellations, and billing-period revenue.
- Interpret total members carefully: it includes canceled members who still have access until their paid period ends. Active members excludes canceled memberships.
- Open Analytics → Revenue and inspect the Transactions Revenue card for membership transactions, including new sign-ups and recurrences.
- Check whether the membership feature is active and whether the channel is in paused mode. A stream outage by itself does not tell you whether either condition has changed.
Keeping a 24/7 stream available
If your goal is to reduce interruptions to the live ad opportunity and keep viewers able to watch, you can troubleshoot your streaming setup or use a cloud service. Stream availability and membership billing are separate: keeping a stream online does not guarantee ad delivery, and it does not replace checking your channel’s membership status.
