YouTube’s playback API supports loading and cueing videos and playlists, but that alone does not mean a streaming app deletes a video from its own queue after it plays. Check the specific app for a “remove after playback” or similar setting; if it is undocumented, verify it with the vendor or test safely on a private stream.
Why YouTube itself does not settle the question
YouTube’s IFrame Player API documents functions for loading and cueing a video, playlist, or list of videos. Those functions describe what to play; they do not establish that a separate streaming application will delete a completed item from its own queue. Google’s YouTube Player API reference is about playback and queueing, not a universal remove-after-playback rule.

YouTube’s live-stream controls cover matters such as stream settings, scheduling, and encoder configuration. The reviewed YouTube Help page on managing live stream settings does not document a general control that removes individual videos from an external playout queue.

Live playlist editing
Some tools let you change a playlist while a stream is running. Upstream’s 24/7 live-streaming quick-start guide says users can add and remove files, rearrange a playlist, and play a file on demand without interrupting the stream. Those are live editing controls; they do not confirm that a file is automatically removed when playback finishes.

Manual removal in an OBS rundown
The 24/7 Playout OBS plugin describes continuous playlist or rundown management and a right-click action to remove entries. Its feature description establishes manual removal, not automatic cleanup after playback.
Broadcast automation
Automation that renews or manages a YouTube broadcast is separate from automation that edits a video queue. The OBS Project’s Live Stream Segmenter resource describes automation using the YouTube Data API and Live Streaming API, including broadcast renewal. It does not document automatic removal of played videos. The listing specifies OBS Studio 31.1.1 or later and was published January 13, 2026; confirm compatibility and current behavior in the resource before installing it.

How to check whether your software removes played videos
- Identify the exact app and version. Queue behavior is implemented by individual tools, not guaranteed by YouTube’s player API.
- Inspect its playlist or queue settings and documentation. Search for “remove after playback,” “delete played items,” or “queue cleanup.” Do not assume a setting exists based on a general description of playlist support.
- Ask the vendor if the behavior is unclear. Ask whether a completed item is deleted automatically, whether the behavior applies to every playback mode, and whether the change persists after a restart.
- Test on a private stream with disposable files. Note the queue before playback, let one item finish, then check whether it disappears, remains, or moves. Avoid testing with content you do not have permission to stream.

If you need a stream to keep playing without managing a local queue
For hosted playlist management, Upstream documents live edits, but automatic removal after playback is not verified in its cited guide.
