No. Java Edition mods do not run as Java mods in Bedrock Edition. The editions use different technical systems and content formats. If you want to customize Bedrock, use add-ons made for Bedrock, such as resource packs and behavior packs, or find content through the Minecraft Marketplace.
Why Java mods do not work in Bedrock
A Java mod is made for Java Edition, not as a cross-edition Minecraft add-on. The editions differ in their underlying systems and content formats. Microsoft Learn, for example, describes Java world storage as Anvil and Bedrock world storage as LevelDB, alongside differences in resource and behavior packs. Changing a setting or copying a Java mod file into Bedrock does not make it compatible.

Minecraft’s edition comparison identifies Java with mods and Bedrock with add-ons and Marketplace content. Third-party Java mods are not officially supported: Minecraft Help says Mojang Studios does not create, review, or endorse them, and warns that they can cause the game to malfunction or become unplayable.

What to use on Bedrock instead
Choose a Bedrock add-on that explicitly supports the edition and device you use. Add-ons can combine resource packs, which affect how content looks, and behavior packs, which affect how entities and other game elements behave. Minecraft Help describes add-ons as a way to add custom blocks, items, mobs, recipes, and other content to new or existing Bedrock worlds.

The official Minecraft Creator FAQ answers “Can you mod Minecraft bedrock edition?” by pointing to Resource and Behavior pack Add-Ons for changing Bedrock mobs, blocks, and items. These are Bedrock add-ons—not Java mods converted to another format. The Marketplace is an official place to discover Bedrock content, but Minecraft also allows add-ons from outside the Marketplace; a community download should not be assumed to be official or reviewed.
How to activate a Bedrock add-on
- Obtain an add-on intended for Bedrock Edition and check that it supports your platform and game version.
- For a new world, open its creation settings; for an existing world, open that world’s settings.
- Open the world’s Resource packs or Behavior packs settings and activate the pack or packs the add-on requires. Menu wording may differ by installed version, so follow the labels shown in your game.
- For a Realm, use the separate Realm activation flow described in Minecraft Help’s “Activate Add-Ons in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition”.
Check edition and device compatibility
Bedrock is available across PC, console, and mobile, while Java Edition is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs, according to Minecraft’s edition comparison. A Bedrock add-on’s support can still depend on the particular device and content, so confirm compatibility before installing. A listing for a Java mod is not evidence that it will work on a Bedrock device.
