Fortnite skins and other items are available across platforms when each platform account is linked to the same Epic Games account. That shares one account’s inventory; it does not move items between separate Epic accounts.
How Fortnite cross-progression works
Your Epic Games account is the shared account record. Link the platform accounts you use to that same Epic account, and the items and progress associated with it can be accessed on supported platforms. Epic’s guidance covers retaining purchases and progress across platforms, subject to platform-specific limits: Will I retain my Fortnite purchases and progress across platforms?

Epic says items are shared between platforms linked to the same account. The key is that each console or other platform account must be associated with the Epic account that owns the items. See Epic Games Support’s explanation of what content is shared between platforms.

What shares—and what does not
| Scenario | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Skin or other item; platform accounts linked to the same Epic account | Available across the linked platforms where you play Fortnite. |
| Skin or other item on a different Epic account | It stays with the account where it was purchased, earned, or claimed; Epic does not offer manual transfers or account merges. |
| Purchased V-Bucks | Sharing depends on platform. Purchased V-Bucks on Nintendo Switch are not shared with other platforms. |
| V-Bucks earned through Fortnite Passes, Quest Packs, or Save the World | Epic says these earned V-Bucks are shared across platforms. |
| Items purchased with V-Bucks | Epic says those items are available on all platforms where you play Fortnite; this is separate from whether the remaining currency balance is shared. |
| Progress already stored on different platform accounts | Epic says you must choose which progress to keep; separate progress records cannot be combined. |
For the currency rules and examples, consult Epic’s V-Bucks transfer guidance. A different displayed balance does not by itself mean your skin is platform-locked.

If your skins or progress are missing
Check which Epic account is linked
Confirm that the platform account is linked to the Epic Games account that owns the skin or progress. Signing in with a different Epic account can show a different inventory. Do not unlink first: Epic warns that restrictions apply when replacing a previously linked platform account.
Do not expect a transfer or merge
Epic says, “It is not possible to manually transfer a Fortnite item or cosmetic from one Epic account to another.” Its separate account-merge guidance says there is no way to merge two Epic accounts. Read how Epic handles item transfers and its account-merge guidance before taking action.

Choose carefully when progress differs
If platform accounts have different Fortnite progress, Epic’s sync instructions require choosing which progress to keep; they do not combine the records. Review Epic’s progress-sync instructions before linking accounts.

Epic’s account-linking guidance says a restriction on linking a different platform account can be removed only once every 365 days. Because linking and relinking rules can change, read Epic’s current instructions for linking a different platform account and confirm which account holds your items and progress before unlinking or relinking.
