Not through Apple’s built-in ChatGPT integration. Apple documents that integration as an Apple Intelligence feature, so the claim that it works on any iPhone or iPad without Apple Intelligence is not supported by the official guidance. You can use the ChatGPT app separately, but opening the app is not the same as asking Siri to use ChatGPT.
What “ChatGPT with Siri” means
Apple’s built-in connection lets Siri call on ChatGPT for some requests, rather than routing every Siri request through ChatGPT. Apple describes it as part of Apple Intelligence in its iPhone guide and iPad guide. The official material does not establish that this integrated feature works on devices that do not support Apple Intelligence.

There are three different ways people may mean “use ChatGPT with Siri”:

- Built-in integration: Siri can pass certain requests to ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence.
- App Shortcut: Apple says App Shortcuts can be initiated with Siri, Spotlight, or the Shortcuts app. That general feature does not confirm a ChatGPT-specific shortcut that works as a direct Siri answer on devices without Apple Intelligence. See Apple’s App Shortcuts documentation.
- ChatGPT app: You can open and use the app directly. This is a separate route, not Siri integration.
Set up the built-in integration on a supported device
Apple’s menus and eligibility rules can change between operating-system releases. The current directions in the cited guides use the Apple Intelligence & Siri settings area; check Apple’s support guidance for your device, software version, language, and region.

- Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Tap ChatGPT, then choose Set Up.
- Choose whether to use ChatGPT without signing in or connect a ChatGPT account, then follow the prompts.
- Try a request such as: “Hey Siri, ask ChatGPT to compose a haiku about dragons.”

Accounts, confirmations, and files
Signing in to a ChatGPT account is optional for setting up the extension. Apple says a ChatGPT account is needed if you want requests to be saved to ChatGPT history.

In the documented extension flow, Siri ordinarily asks before sending a request to ChatGPT. OpenAI says you can turn off Confirm ChatGPT Requests in Settings, or begin an ordinary prompt with “Ask ChatGPT…” to bypass that confirmation. OpenAI also states: “Siri will always ask permission before sending a file to ChatGPT.” These controls describe the documented extension flow; behavior can differ across operating-system versions or modes. What to do if Apple Intelligence is unavailable
If the ChatGPT option is missing under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, first check Apple’s current device, operating-system, language, and regional eligibility requirements. A general ability to invoke App Shortcuts with Siri is not proof that a compatible ChatGPT shortcut exists for your device or provides the built-in integration.
The straightforward fallback is to open ChatGPT and use it directly. Apple’s App Store listing reported iOS 18.0 or later for the official ChatGPT app when checked; that requirement can change, so consult the current App Store listing for the latest minimum. App availability does not make the app a Siri extension.
