Sometimes—but there is no blanket commercial-use permission for every font described as a Commodore 64 font. Check the license for the exact font file and the way you plan to use it. For example, the Style64 C64 TrueType license permits static images and vector art but restricts selling or redistributing the font file and limits software bundling. Commodore names, logos, and other official marks raise a separate licensing question.
First, identify which C64 font you have
“C64 font” describes a look or character set, not a universal license. Find the font’s author or project page and read the license that applies to the specific file you downloaded. Do not assume that permission for one C64-style font also applies to another.

For instance, the Style64 C64 TrueType package lists five typefaces: C64 User, C64 User Mono, C64 Pro, C64 Pro Mono, and C64 Elite Mono. The project page identifies version 1.2.1, released April 15, 2019. Its terms are set out in the Style64 font license.

Confirm that your copy is one of those files and keep the applicable license information.

What does the Style64 license allow?
The Style64 license expressly allows several uses, but distinguishes displaying the font from distributing the font software.
- Static images and vector art: permitted by the published license. This covers uses such as rendered text in artwork, but does not grant permission to distribute the font file itself.
- Website display: the license permits embedding the font and its EOT/WOFF variants without modification, using the supplied filenames, with
@font-face. It also permits linking to the Style64 download page. - Software bundles: the font may be included unmodified in a software package only if the software is freely provided to end users. The license also requires keeping the supplied filenames.
- Uses outside those guidelines: the license invites users to contact Style64 to negotiate a possibly commercial license. That invitation is not itself permission; get an agreement covering your intended use before proceeding.
Can you sell or redistribute the font file?
No—not under the Style64 license. Its restrictions say you may not sell the font, include or redistribute it in a font collection regardless of price, or offer it for direct download from a website. These limits concern the font file; they do not cancel the license’s separate permissions for uses such as static artwork.

If your project requires distributing the font software in a way the license does not expressly allow, contact Style64 about terms for that use. For a different font, follow that file’s own license instead.
Does using the font in a logo, game, or website change the answer?
Logo or other artwork
The Style64 license permits static images and vector art, so rendered lettering in a logo or graphic fits that stated category. This does not settle whether a design that also uses Commodore’s name, logo, or other official marks is authorized. Font-file permission and brand permission are separate.

For the Style64 font, web embedding is permitted under the stated conditions: use the font and EOT/WOFF variants without modification, retain the supplied filenames, and embed them using @font-face. Do not turn that permission into a general right to host the font for direct download.
Game or other software
The Style64 license permits unmodified inclusion in a software package only when it is freely provided to end users and the supplied filenames are kept. If the game or package is not freely provided, or your use otherwise falls outside those terms, the published license does not establish permission; ask Style64 about a license for the specific distribution.

Is a Commodore trademark license also required?
Not simply because a font evokes the C64. Whether the font file can be used depends on its own license. Official names, logos, and other Commodore marks are a separate matter.

The licensing page describes options to apply for an official brand license or sell products through Commodore’s marketplace; neither option replaces permission from the font’s author.
The licensing page describes its pipeline as beta, lists a 6.4% fee for each option, and says official brand licensing involves mandatory physical samples and stringent testing. Marketplace submissions are subject to due diligence and specification checks. These are current program statements, not a guarantee of acceptance or a font license; confirm the terms and eligibility with Commodore before relying on them.
Check the license before you publish
- Identify the exact file. Record its filename, source, author or project, and version where available.
- Read that file’s license. Check commercial permission and the specific rules for artwork, web embedding, software bundling, redistribution, attribution, modification, filenames, and end-user cost.
- Match the terms to your planned use. Rendering text in a graphic is not the same as distributing the font file or bundling it in software.
- Check for brand elements separately. If the product uses official Commodore names, logos, or marks, review Commodore’s guidance independently of the font license.
- Get written permission when needed. If the intended use is outside the published terms, contact the font author or rights holder and obtain an agreement before release.
These sources establish the terms of the specific examples above; they do not settle legal questions about every independent typeface design or every jurisdiction. When a project depends on a close legal distinction, get advice for the relevant facts and location.
