You can turn Apple Intelligence off on a Mac, and Apple says doing so removes its on-device models. That is the supported option if you want the models gone or hope to free storage. Apple documents settings to turn off the feature set, disable selected tools, or restrict access; it does not document a separate procedure for uninstalling every Apple Intelligence-related macOS component.
Turn off Apple Intelligence on your Mac
On macOS Tahoe, open System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn off Apple Intelligence. Apple says the setting shown can depend on your macOS version and whether you have already set up the feature, so the wording or availability may differ on another release. See Apple’s Mac guide to using Apple Intelligence.

Apple states that when you turn Apple Intelligence off, “the on-device models will be removed from your device.” This is the clearest documented meaning of “remove” for someone looking to reclaim storage. It removes the models, but Apple does not describe this control as uninstalling all related system interfaces or components. The statement appears in Apple Support’s How to get Apple Intelligence.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose the level of control you need
| Option | What it does | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Turn off Apple Intelligence | Turns off the feature set; Apple says the on-device models are removed. | Removing the models or switching off Apple Intelligence broadly. |
| Disable selected features | Turns off available feature-specific controls, such as certain summaries, while leaving other functionality available. | Keeping some Apple Intelligence features but disabling particular ones. |
| Restrict access with Screen Time | Limits access to supported categories such as Writing Tools or image creation; this is an access restriction, not a documented model-removal method. | Limiting use on a Mac without treating it as an uninstall. |
Which individual controls appear depends on the installed macOS version, the feature, and—in some cases—language and region. Apple’s guide to turning off and restricting Apple Intelligence features on Mac describes feature-specific controls and availability caveats.

Turn off particular features instead
If you want to keep Apple Intelligence available but reduce the features you see, check the controls for your macOS release. Apple’s Mac guide describes separate controls for items including Messages summaries, Mail summaries, notification summaries, and other tools. Names and availability can change between releases; use the labels shown in your own System Settings rather than assuming every Mac has identical options.
Use Screen Time to restrict access
Screen Time can limit access to supported Apple Intelligence categories, including Writing Tools and image creation. Apple documents these as restrictions on feature access, not as a way to remove the on-device models. Its instructions are in Block access to Apple Intelligence features in Screen Time on Mac and Change Intelligence & Siri settings in Screen Time on Mac.

How much storage will turning it off free?
Apple’s newer requirements page gives upper storage requirements of up to 14 GB for specified newer devices—including Mac models with M3 or later and at least 12 GB of unified memory—and up to 8 GB for other Apple Intelligence-enabled devices. These are Apple’s stated device-storage ceilings, not a promise that every Mac uses or will recover that amount. Apple confirms that turning Apple Intelligence off removes the on-device models, but it does not state a guaranteed free-space result for an individual Mac. Check available storage on your own Mac before and after changing the setting if you need an exact measurement. See Apple’s next-generation Apple Intelligence requirements.
Keep release context in mind: Apple’s earlier macOS 26.1 support material gives a 7 GB storage requirement. That earlier figure should not be treated as interchangeable with the newer 8 GB and 14 GB ceilings.

What “uninstall” means here
Apple documents a switch that turns Apple Intelligence off and removes its on-device models, along with controls for individual features and access restrictions. It does not document a separate package-uninstall process for every related part of macOS. If your goal is to stop using the features, turn them off in Settings; if your goal is storage, the models are the documented removable part, but the amount of space recovered is not guaranteed.
