Google’s “Uninstall updates” instructions apply to the Google Play Store app, not the Android system update. First identify which component changed; the steps and risks are different.
Identify what you want to roll back
“Google Play update” can mean several things. Check the name of the item in Settings or on the app’s App info screen before changing anything.

Uninstall updates to the Google Play Store app
Use these steps only if you mean the Play Store app itself—for example, because the Store is malfunctioning. The wording and location of App info can vary by Android version and device manufacturer.

- Open its App info. Depending on your device, you may need to touch and hold the app icon and choose the App info option.
- Tap More > Uninstall updates, then confirm.
This restores the Play Store app to its factory version. To update it again, open Play Store, tap your profile picture, then go to Settings > About. Under Play Store version, tap Update Play Store. Google presents these steps as Play Store troubleshooting, not as a way to reverse an Android system update.

Remove updates from a system service only when that is the item at issue
Android Help gives a separate removal path for system services. On a supported device, open Settings, tap your profile, then select All services > Privacy & security > System services. Under Up to date, choose the relevant service and tap Remove updates. Menu names and availability can vary.
This control is for the selected system service; it is not a general rollback switch for Google Play system updates. Google also warns that turning off system services can affect device performance, so do not remove or disable a service unless you know which one is involved.

For a Google Play system update or Android firmware, check with the device maker
Google’s Android guidance distinguishes Android version, security update, and Google Play system update status. It does not establish a universal method to uninstall or downgrade a Google Play system update or firmware. Google notes that update schedules vary by device, manufacturer, and mobile carrier; update behavior also depends on the device. Contact the manufacturer or carrier for model-specific options rather than applying Play Store instructions to system software. If the symptom is a broken or unreliable Play Store—not a system update—Google’s troubleshooting guidance includes removing Store updates and clearing the Store’s cache and data. Clearing Play Store data can reset settings such as parental controls and password protection, and you may need to accept the Terms of Service again. Follow Google’s advanced Play Store troubleshooting in order; Google presents a factory reset as a final troubleshooting step if the earlier steps do not resolve the Store problem, not as a way to restore an older system update.

Do not confuse Play services with the Play Store
Google says “Google Play services isn’t the same as the Google Play Store app and it’s included with Android.” Play services cannot be force-stopped or uninstalled. Clearing its storage is a separate, more consequential action: it may delete saved information, including passwords or payment-related cards, and require you to authenticate again. Do not clear Play services data as a routine way to roll back an update.
