Sometimes—but only if the tablet is designed to run from external power without its battery. Android includes software support for devices with no detected battery, but that does not mean any consumer tablet will boot or work safely with its battery removed. Check the exact model’s manufacturer documentation before trying.
Why Android support does not guarantee your tablet will work
Android’s platform documentation covers devices designed to operate with a removable battery or no internal battery. It explains how Android detects battery presence and represents battery and charger states. That is guidance for device makers, not proof that a particular tablet supports battery-free use.

For Android 9 and later, the documented defaults allow a device with no battery detected to be treated as running from external power, even when charger types are reported as offline. Android 8.1 and earlier have different defaults. In either case, software behavior cannot establish whether the tablet’s hardware can start, stay stable, or receive suitable power without its battery.
For products intended to remain connected to external power, the Android Open Source Project recommends accurate power reporting, such as a Linux power-supply class charger driver or Health HAL configuration. The framework also provides a developer example that checks battery presence using BatteryManager.EXTRA_PRESENT through ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED. These are implementation details; they are not a user-level test or permission to remove a battery. Read the Android Open Source Project’s batteryless-device guidance.

How to check whether your tablet supports it
- Identify the exact model. Use the model name or number printed on the tablet or listed in its settings. Similar-looking models may have different power designs.
- Find the manufacturer’s manual or support documentation. Look for an explicit statement that the tablet can operate with the battery removed—not merely instructions for charging, replacing, or removing the battery.
- Check the documented power input and adapter requirements. Use only the input and adapter specified for that model. A matching USB connector does not prove compatibility or battery-free operation.
- Follow any stated service and safety steps. If the documentation says to power off before battery removal, or does not say operation without the battery is supported, do not assume that plugging in the tablet makes removal safe.
If the documentation does not clearly answer whether the tablet can boot and remain powered without its battery, contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider before attempting it.

This is a model-specific example of external power and battery procedures. The quoted instruction describes working while the battery charges; it does not expressly say the L10 can start or operate with no battery installed. It also says nothing about whether another tablet accepts the same adapter or supports the same procedure.

What to avoid
- Do not infer support from Android version. Batteryless behavior in Android’s framework does not establish hardware capability for an arbitrary tablet.
- Do not infer support from the connector. A USB port or other external input alone does not show that the tablet can operate without its battery.
- Do not improvise power connections. Battery-terminal wiring is not a universal solution; use only a manufacturer-supported configuration and adapter.
