Why the inner protector is different
The film on a foldable’s inner display is designed for a surface that bends repeatedly. Samsung says its Galaxy Z protector is specially designed to withstand folding and unfolding; Motorola describes the Razr liner as tailored to its folding design. That makes ordinary advice for applying a flat-screen phone protector a poor fit.

Samsung US advises against both self-application and removal, saying authorized specialists have the equipment to align and apply the protector. Motorola says, “Do not attempt to remove the pre-installed screen protector.” Google’s Pixel Fold safety guide likewise says not to remove or peel back the pre-installed protector and not to apply a third-party one.

Scratches, cracks, bubbles, deformation, or separation from the display are reasons to contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider. Samsung Germany lists scratches, cracks, and other film damage as possible reasons for replacement; Motorola directs owners to service options if its film bubbles, deforms, or separates.

- Do not pick at a loose edge or try to peel the film off.
- Avoid pressing hard on the flexible display.
- Ask an authorized provider to assess the film and check whether the display or frame is also damaged.
A damaged film can look like display damage. Samsung Korea advises getting the phone assessed by a service center rather than removing the film arbitrarily. If touch is affected, mention that when arranging service.

How to choose a service option
- Identify the exact model and country. Open its manufacturer support page and look for inner-display protector replacement, authorized repair, or service-center information.
- Confirm the provider covers your model. Ask whether the location is authorized for that specific foldable and whether it handles protector replacement, not just general phone repairs.
- Check the current terms before booking. Ask about price, labor, any qualifying free replacement, time limits, and whether existing display or frame damage affects acceptance or cost.
- Compare in-person and mail-in service. Choose based on local availability, expected turnaround, and the provider’s instructions for sending or bringing in the phone.
Terms can differ even within one brand. For example, Samsung’s US and German support pages describe different replacement allowances and service arrangements; neither should be assumed to apply in another country.

Warranty and touch issues
Do not assume that a DIY replacement automatically voids a warranty, or that a manufacturer will cover a replacement. Coverage depends on the device, country, warranty or protection plan, and the provider’s damage assessment. Google’s warranty helper lets owners check coverage using the device IMEI and notes that physical, cosmetic, or liquid damage, as well as expired coverage, may affect eligibility: Google warranty check.

Samsung Korea notes that if the film has already been removed from a Galaxy Z, touch sensitivity may need to be turned off in display settings. This is a region-specific troubleshooting note, not a recommendation to remove the film. Contact Samsung or an authorized provider for advice relevant to your model and location.

Should you buy an aftermarket inner-screen protector?
Do not treat a generic or third-party inner-display film as an approved substitute. Google explicitly warns Pixel Fold owners not to apply a third-party protector, while Samsung’s US guidance says the Galaxy Z protector needs specialist application. If you are considering a product for a foldable, verify the exact model and whether it is for the inner display or the outer cover screen; guidance for one surface does not establish compatibility with the other.
