Usually, yes—if your phone shows an Uninstall button for SmartThings. On some Galaxy devices the app is preinstalled and may offer only Disable or a way to hide it. The available controls vary by app and device, so check SmartThings’ App info screen rather than assuming it can always be removed. Uninstalling the phone app is also different from choosing Leave SmartThings, which Samsung says erases SmartThings data and removes the service from your Samsung account.
Check whether your phone lets you uninstall SmartThings
- Open Settings > Apps > SmartThings on your Galaxy phone.
- Look at the controls on the App info screen. If Uninstall is available, select it and follow the prompts to remove the app.
- If there is no Uninstall option, check whether Disable is offered. Samsung says some preinstalled apps can be disabled, while others can only be hidden or deleted; these options depend on the app and device.
Samsung also documents hiding apps from the Home and Apps screens. Hiding changes whether the app is shown there; it does not mean the SmartThings service or account has been deleted. Samsung’s sign-out instructions explicitly warn: “However, do not tap this unless you want to erase all of your data and leave the service.” That warning refers to Leave SmartThings, not uninstalling the app through phone settings. What happens to devices and routines if you uninstall the app?
SmartThings is used to control connected devices and manage features such as rooms and routines. Removing the app takes away access to those app functions on the phone where it was installed. The reviewed Samsung and SmartThings instructions do not say that uninstalling the phone app by itself automatically deletes every device or stops every service-side automation, so do not treat app removal as a complete smart-home teardown.

If you intend to dismantle the setup, review devices, routines, and connected services separately. SmartThings warns that deleting a linked cloud service may also remove its associated devices or routines. Removing a device can require additional steps, such as excluding a Z-Wave device from a hub or resetting the device. Start with the relevant SmartThings instructions for removing devices and linked services.
Unlink a voice assistant separately
If your goal is to stop Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa from connecting to SmartThings, unlink that service separately rather than assuming that uninstalling the phone app removes the connection. SmartThings provides steps for unlinking Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

Keep SmartThings but reduce what the app does
If you only want to stop using the app on this phone, signing out or adjusting relevant app settings may be more appropriate than leaving the service. Samsung lists configurable SmartThings settings that include location-related behavior and notifications. The precise controls available can depend on the device and software version; consult Samsung’s SmartThings settings guide for its documented options.
