No—Samsung says SmartThings Find can no longer remotely unlock a phone. Samsung UK’s support page, updated 24 April 2026, says a locked-out user may need to factory reset the device if no remote unlock method was set up. A reset erases local data; restoring it afterward depends on having a backup.
What to do if you forgot your Samsung screen PIN, pattern, or password
Use Samsung’s current lockout guidance rather than old Find My Mobile tutorials. Samsung says remote unlocking through SmartThings Find is no longer possible. If you cannot unlock the phone and had no other unlock method configured, its guidance is to factory reset the device, then restore backed-up data and settings if available. A factory reset removes data stored locally on the phone. A backup is what makes restoring backed-up content possible; it does not preserve data that was never backed up. Recovery and support options can vary by country, so use Samsung support for your region if you need help with your specific model.

Why old instructions still show a Remote unlock option
Samsung’s older guidance, updated 12 August 2020, described unlocking through Find My Mobile after forgetting a pattern, PIN, or password. That historical process required the phone to be powered on and connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data, a Samsung account registered on the device, and Remote unlock enabled in advance. It is not a current workaround: Samsung’s newer UK guidance says the service is no longer available for remote unlocking.

Samsung Canada also explains that the legacy Remote unlock setting may temporarily remain visible even though it no longer works. Removal timing can vary with software generation, model, and market. A visible menu or toggle is therefore not proof that the feature can unlock a phone. Samsung’s lost-device services have their own requirements. Samsung says location and remote-control features depend on the device and settings; the phone generally needs to be powered on and connected for current controls, while a powered-off device may show only its last known location. What not to rely on
- Do not follow a tutorial that presents the old SmartThings Find or Find My Mobile Unlock control as a current option.
- Enabling the old Remote unlock setting after you are locked out will not help; the legacy workflow required it to be enabled beforehand, and Samsung now says remote unlocking is unavailable.
- Be wary of third-party claims that promise to bypass a Galaxy screen lock while preserving data. Samsung’s cited guidance does not establish such a method.
