The right steps depend on the exact model, sales region, carrier variant, and software version—and Samsung’s public guidance does not provide a universal relock procedure. Don’t try a generic Android command unless it has been confirmed for your specific phone.
Can you relock a Samsung Galaxy bootloader?
Possibly, but the available official guidance does not establish one procedure that works across all Galaxy phones. Samsung’s Developer FAQ directs people with bootloader questions to Samsung Customer Support for device-specific guidance: Samsung Developer FAQ. Before following any instructions, identify the phone’s full model number, sales region, carrier variant, and software version. Those details matter, and the sources available do not settle the differences for every variant.

Do not proceed with instructions written for a different model just because the phone has the same Galaxy name. If you cannot confirm a relock method for your exact device, ask Samsung Support or an authorized service provider rather than improvising with bootloader commands.

The Android Open Source Project documents fastboot flashing lock as a general Android bootloader-locking command and notes that locking resets the device. That is not evidence that every Samsung Galaxy supports fastboot relocking. Do not run the command on a Galaxy unless a reliable, device-specific source confirms it works for that model and software version. Read the AOSP explanation: Lock and unlock the bootloader.

Samsung’s secure-boot design verifies signatures as boot components load. If unofficial, modified, or mismatched firmware is installed, locking the bootloader may leave the phone unable to start. Avoid relocking until the installed software is confirmed compatible with the exact device; this is general safety guidance, not a Samsung-wide relocking recipe. Samsung explains the signature-verification chain in its Trusted Boot documentation.
Relocking will not reset Knox
Bootloader state and Knox’s recorded trust state are different. Samsung describes the Knox Warranty Bit as a one-time programmable e-fuse: relocking does not reverse it. Samsung says that when the bit is tripped, Knox Workspace data can become inaccessible and services including Samsung Pay and Secure Folder may stop working. Its FAQ states, “The Samsung Knox warranty bit is a security feature that detects if unofficial software has been installed on your phone.” See Samsung Knox Platform for Enterprise FAQ.

Do not expect relocking to restore Knox, Secure Folder, Samsung Pay, warranty eligibility, or the phone’s original integrity state. Samsung documents potential effects on Knox features; warranty handling and service outcomes can depend on the device and region. What to do if the phone is stuck or will not boot
Stuck in Download mode
Download mode is a software-maintenance environment, not a universal bootloader-repair workflow. Samsung warns that unsupported software installation can damage a device or affect warranty coverage. If the phone keeps returning to Download mode, Samsung recommends service rather than repeated attempts with unverified files or commands. Update or recovery failure
Smart Switch can help with certain documented update and emergency-recovery problems, but Samsung does not describe it as a universal way to relock a bootloader. Recovery or reset paths may erase data. Back up what you can and follow the instructions for your device. Before attempting any device-specific relock
- Record the full model number, sales region, carrier variant, and current software version.
- Find instructions that explicitly cover those details; do not assume a procedure for another Galaxy applies.
- Confirm that the installed firmware is official and matches the device before locking. A lock can reset the phone, and incompatible software can prevent it from booting.
- Back up important data where possible, since locking or recovery procedures may erase it.
- If the phone will not boot, shows an error, or remains in Download mode, contact Samsung Support or an authorized service provider instead of testing commands.
