What is different about the Switch 2 edition?
This is a native Nintendo Switch 2 release, distinct from the existing Nintendo Switch edition. Mojang says the new version will have Vibrant Visuals enabled by default, with enhanced lighting and shadows. The company describes it as Minecraft’s biggest visual graphics update to date.
Vibrant Visuals will not be available in every situation: Mojang notes exclusions including split-screen play and certain Marketplace worlds and content. The Super Mario Mash-Up pack is also set to receive an update. Mojang’s announcement does not specify further details about that update.

Nintendo’s U.S. Nintendo Switch Minecraft listing is for the older Switch edition. Check the platform and edition on the product page before purchasing.
Is there an upgrade for the existing Switch version?
Mojang says owners of the Nintendo Switch version will have a digital upgrade path to the Switch 2 version. Its announcement does not establish the upgrade price, eligibility requirements, or other terms, so existing owners should wait for the details in their regional store before deciding whether to buy the new edition separately.

What to know before placing a digital preorder
Nintendo of America’s general eShop policy says eligible digital preorders are charged no sooner than seven days before release and can be canceled before payment processing. That policy is not confirmation that Minecraft has a U.S. preorder page, and it applies to eligible eShop preorders under Nintendo’s policy.
