Yes. You can connect an original Nintendo Wii to a Roku TV if the TV has compatible AV inputs, or by using a suitable converter when it does not. The Wii’s standard connection is analog—not native HDMI—so check the ports on your exact TV before choosing a cable or adapter.
Choose the connection that matches your Roku TV’s ports
Roku TVs vary by model. Look at the labels beside the television’s inputs or consult its manual; the Roku brand alone does not tell you which ports are available.

| What you find on the TV | What to connect | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow, white and red AV inputs | The Wii AV cable | Yellow carries video; white and red carry left/mono and right audio. |
| No yellow input, but a compatible shared component/Y input | The Wii AV cable, with yellow video plug connected to the appropriate green Y input | Input layouts vary; check the TV manual before connecting. |
| Mini-plug AV input | A TV-model-compatible AV adapter plus the Wii AV cable | Compatibility depends on the exact TV model. |
| Component video inputs | A Wii component video cable | Component is analog and requires component inputs on the TV. |
| HDMI only, with no compatible analog inputs | A Wii-to-HDMI converter | Check that the product explicitly supports the original Wii and review its power and compatibility requirements. |
Connect the Wii with composite AV
- With the Wii off, insert the AV Multi Out end of the Wii AV cable into the matching port on the back of the console. Nintendo’s AV connection instructions show this connection.
- Connect the yellow plug to the TV’s compatible video input, then connect white to left/mono audio and red to right audio.
- Turn on the Wii and TV, then select the TV input where the cable is connected. The control may be labeled Input, Input Select, EXT, AUX or AV.
Roku’s TV setup guide covers connecting devices to available HDMI or AV inputs. On a Roku TV, find and select the relevant input from the home interface; exact menu labels can vary by model and software version.
If the TV has no yellow AV jack
Check for a shared component/Y input
Some TVs have no yellow socket but may accept composite video through a specially designated green component/Y input. Nintendo’s guidance for TVs without a yellow input describes connecting the Wii’s yellow plug to the first component set’s green Y input when the TV supports that arrangement. Connect the Wii’s white and red audio plugs to the corresponding audio inputs. Leave the other component sockets unused for this composite hookup. Because TV designs differ, confirm the arrangement in your model’s manual.
#1 Best Overall
- STABLE WII TO HDMI CONVERSION: Convert your Wii or Wii U audio and video signal to HDMI for modern HDTVs, monitors and projectors. Designed for stable signal transmission and synchronized sound and picture, it works with 720p and 1080p HDMI displays while preserving the console’s original image quality.
- SIMPLE PLUG-AND-PLAY SETUP: No drivers, software, settings or external power required. Connect the adapter to your console, attach an HDMI cable, select the correct HDMI input on your display and start playing. For the most reliable connection, plug the adapter directly into the TV, monitor or projector rather than an HDMI switch or splitter.
- HDMI AUDIO PLUS 3.5MM AUDIO JACK: Audio is transmitted through the HDMI connection, while the built-in 3.5mm audio output lets you connect headphones, a headset or external speakers. Enjoy private late-night gaming or send the sound directly to your preferred audio device.
- SUPPORTS STANDARD WII DISPLAY MODES: Compatible with NTSC 480i, 480p and PAL 576i display modes. Some newer TVs and monitors may not accept certain 240p or 480i game signals through HDMI; if no picture appears, set the Wii display resolution to 480p when the game and console support it.
- COMPACT DESIGN & CLEAR COMPATIBILITY: Measuring approximately 6 × 3 × 1.9 cm, the compact adapter connects neatly behind the console without taking up desk space or adding tangled cables. Compatible with Wii and Wii U consoles using the Wii AV output connection; not compatible with Wii Mini. If you experience no picture, no sound or abnormal display lines, contact customer support for troubleshooting or replacement assistance.
Check for a mini-plug AV input
If the TV has a mini-plug AV port, use an adapter made for that TV model to connect the standard Wii AV plugs. A generic adapter may not match the television’s wiring or input requirements.
If the Roku TV has HDMI but no compatible analog input
The original Wii’s documented connections are AV and component, rather than native HDMI. Nintendo’s Wii AV instructions and Wii setup manual describe those analog connections. A Wii-to-HDMI adapter is a third-party conversion option: it takes the Wii’s AV Multi Out signal and supplies HDMI to the television. Roku TVs accept devices through available HDMI inputs, as described in Roku’s setup guide.

- Buy with Confidence: If you receive a defective one (like wavy lines, no sound/picture) or you have any problems with the adapter, please contact us in the first place to get efficient customer service for replacement or other assistance.
- NOTE: Some devices’ auto-setting of screen resolution is 480i instead of 480p, which may not support games at 240p/480i over HDMI. If you switch to 480p mode they may work over HDMI. it can't be connected to the switch/splitter, only connect directly to the TV, monitor, projector. This adapter not support for Wii Mini
- Extra Audio Jack: Although HDMI output provides audio output, an extra 3.5mm audio jack allows you to connect a speaker or headphone. Even the night owls can enjoy playing in the midnight and no need to worry about disturbing others.
- Plug and Play: Super easy to operate. No setting and no need to install the drivers. Just simply hook it up the Wii and plug the HDMI directly into the monitor and BOOM enjoying the games with optimal viewing.
- Small in Size: PORTHOLIC Wii to HDMI Adapter with size of 6 x 3 x 1.9cm, is smaller than a Zippo. Small but powerful. It does not occupy any space on your table by hooking up the back of Wii. No more tangling cords, just one cable.
Before buying, check the adapter listing for explicit original-Wii compatibility, any power requirement and the output it provides. Nintendo’s cited support material does not certify specific HDMI adapters. It also does not establish a comparative ranking for adapter picture quality or input lag, so those results should not be assumed.

Component video is another analog option
If your TV has component inputs, Nintendo lists a Wii component cable as an option in its setup manual. This cable is useful only when the television has compatible component inputs; it is not an HDMI cable and will not solve an HDMI-only connection by itself. Check the TV documentation to confirm that its component input supports the Wii signal.

Troubleshoot a blank screen or missing sound
- Check the plugs and ports: Make sure the cable is seated in the Wii’s AV Multi Out port and connected to TV inputs, not outputs. Nintendo advises using the Wii-supplied AV cable or the listed Wii component cable rather than assuming an arbitrary AV cable will work; see the Wii setup manual.
- Select the matching TV input: If the cables are connected to AV, select that AV source; if you used a converter, select its HDMI input. Roku TV input access and labels can vary by model and software version.
- Recheck port compatibility: Confirm that the TV supports the input you chose. For a shared green Y jack, mini-plug adapter or component connection, follow the exact TV model’s documentation.
- Check converter requirements: If using a third-party HDMI converter, verify that it is intended for the original Wii and that any required power connection is in place. The cited Nintendo support material does not provide a universal HDMI-adapter troubleshooting procedure.
What to check before buying anything
- Identify the exact ports on your Roku TV and check its manual.
- Choose a cable or converter for those ports rather than relying on a generic product name.
- For HDMI conversion, verify original-Wii compatibility and any power or output requirements.
- Do not assume that every Roku TV has composite, component or mini-plug AV inputs.
