Yes—an unofficial community project was reported to run the original Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved in a web browser, with campaign play and multiplayer. PC Gamer described it on October 1, 2026, but the report does not confirm that the site is still reachable or that the features remain working today.
What the browser version is
PC Gamer attributed the project to developer Mitchell Hynes and reported that it builds on Bnunu’s decompilation project and a fork from team Cybersecurity. It is a community project, not an official Halo release or a product announced by the franchise’s rights holder. The report also said the browser downloads what it needs after a user opens the project site.

PC Gamer reported support for Windows, Linux and Android, along with mouse-and-keyboard input. Those are reported compatibility details, not results of independent device testing. The report does not establish that users need to buy a particular disc, computer or accessory.
How multiplayer is reported to work
The reported multiplayer flow uses a room link: a player creates a room and shares its link with others. PC Gamer described hosting as peer-to-peer and noted no apparent matchmaking. That means the report describes a way to join friends through a shared room, not a conventional matchmaking service or official server infrastructure; the host’s connection may affect the session.

- ENHANCED AUDIO & VISUALS — Relive every mission with modernized animations, a remastered soundtrack, and fully rebuilt sound design for deeper immersion across the Halo universe.
- NEW STORY CONTENT — Play as the Master Chief alongside Sgt. Johnson in Operation: Meteorite, a standalone campaign featuring new environments, enemies, and gameplay challenges.
- ICONIC VEHICLES EVOLVED — Drive and hijack classic Halo vehicles with new gameplay possibilities, including piloting a fully controllable Wraith tank for the first time in Halo: CE.
- CO‑OP YOUR WAY — Play solo, in 2‑player split‑screen co‑op (console only), or up to 4‑player online co‑op with full crossplay and cross‑progression support.
Hynes’s post, quoted by PC Gamer, advertised multiplayer “up to 128 players (untested).” Treat that as an untested developer claim, not a verified player limit or a guarantee that a session of that size works. The developer post also listed working split-screen co-op.
How it differs from the official Halo remake
Halo Waypoint announced Halo: Campaign Evolved as a separate, ground-up remake of the Combat Evolved campaign. Its announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5, with up to four-player online or networked co-op and two-player split-screen on consoles. Those are announced features of the official remake, not features of the browser project.

What the reported launch figures do—and do not—show
PC Gamer attributed to the developer a figure of almost 20,000 games across 115 countries within five hours. It is a developer-reported count, not an independently audited usage total, and it does not establish current availability or how reliably multiplayer works.
