What can you play without a Quest headset?
The key distinction is between a game’s platform and the device displaying it. The routes documented by Meta and Xbox do not let you take a Quest-native library and run it on another headset:

- Quest-native games: No general non-Meta playback method is established. A specific title may have another edition, but its availability and purchase rights need to be verified individually.
- Steam games: Steam Link streams games from a computer’s Steam library to a supported Meta Quest headset. It is not a way to stream Quest purchases to another headset.
- Xbox games: Xbox cloud gaming can display supported Xbox games on a virtual screen in certain Quest headsets. It uses Xbox’s catalog and still requires a Quest headset; it does not provide Quest games or make them native VR titles.
How to check whether a particular Quest game is available elsewhere
- Find the game’s official publisher or store listing for the platform you want to use, such as Steam or another headset’s store.
- Confirm that the listing is for the exact title and edition you own. A game with the same name on another platform is not proof that the Quest version is supported there.
- Check the listing or publisher’s support information for cross-buy or entitlement-transfer terms. Unless those terms explicitly cover your purchase and target platform, assume the other edition requires a separate license.
- Confirm the alternative version’s hardware and software requirements before buying or installing it.
The official sources available for this topic do not establish title-by-title cross-buy or transfer rights, so the publisher’s current listing is the deciding source for a particular game.

What Steam Link does—and what it requires
Meta describes Steam Link as a way to stream a computer’s Steam library to a Meta Quest headset. Its documented route requires a Quest 2, Quest 3, or Quest Pro, a computer running Steam and SteamVR on Windows 10 or newer, and a suitable local network. That makes it a PC-to-Quest streaming option, not a non-Meta substitute for the Quest store. Meta’s Steam Link listing gives the full requirements.

These are requirements for the Steam Link route; they do not establish that a particular Quest title has a Steam edition. Check the game’s Steam listing separately.
What Xbox cloud gaming offers on Quest
Xbox cloud gaming is an adjacent option if your goal is to play Xbox games rather than access your Quest library. Xbox presents supported games on a virtual screen inside a compatible Quest headset. That is streamed Xbox gameplay, not a Quest-native VR version or a transfer of Quest purchases.

Xbox’s current VR page lists Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 3S. It calls for a compatible headset and controller, high-speed internet, and a Game Pass subscription; an active subscription and supporting games are required for most cloud games, with exceptions. Xbox also says selected free-to-play titles and most Game Pass titles are available from the cloud. Its current page recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and at least 20 Mbps. Check Xbox’s VR page for current requirements and availability.
Xbox also describes streaming selected games a customer owns, including some games outside Game Pass, subject to the cloud-playable catalog and applicable conditions. Cloud saves can carry progress among Quest, Xbox console, PC, and mobile for games that support that feature. Neither option grants access to the Quest store library.

Catalog, region, and plan details can change
Xbox’s UK VR page currently presents catalog-size figures of 50+ games for Essential, 200+ for Premium, and 400+ for Ultimate. These are Xbox’s plan-library claims, not counts of Quest games. The same page shows monthly cloud-playtime limits of 5, 10, and 15 hours respectively. Plan names, limits, prices, catalogs, and availability can change; check the live page for your country and plan before relying on a figure. Xbox says catalog and feature availability vary by time, region, plan, and platform, so a title appearing in one market or plan does not guarantee access in another.
