Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallYes—if your PS5’s HDMI output works but you have no HDMI display, Sony’s supported option is Remote Play: stream the console to a compatible phone, tablet, computer, selected TV device, or PlayStation Portal. If the PS5’s HDMI OUT port is broken, Remote Play may help only if it was already enabled and configured; it is not a dependable way to complete setup without a working display. A failed port may need repair.
First, identify what “without HDMI” means
There are two different situations: you may lack an HDMI television or monitor, or the HDMI OUT port on the PS5 itself may be damaged. Remote Play can address the first by sending gameplay over a network to another device. It does not fix the console’s physical video output.

- No HDMI display available: Try Remote Play on a supported device, provided Remote Play is enabled on the console.
- Broken PS5 HDMI OUT port: Remote Play is worth trying if the console was configured beforehand. If not, Sony’s setup steps may require a display, and persistent display problems should be investigated through PlayStation Repairs.
Sony documents the PS5’s HDMI OUT connection and recommends connecting the console directly to the screen’s HDMI port. Its official instructions do not establish USB-C video output from the PS5 or guarantee that a generic converter will work. Check a display’s inputs and supported signal path before relying on an adapter.
Play on another device with PS Remote Play
PS Remote Play streams PS5 games over a network to supported devices. Sony lists Windows PCs and Macs, iPhone and iPad, Android devices, selected Android TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, and PlayStation Portal. Sony also says you can start the console and play from the app without turning on the TV, but that assumes Remote Play is available and configured on the PS5. See Sony’s PS Remote Play requirements and compatibility.

What you need
- A working PS5 connected to broadband.
- Remote Play enabled in advance on the console for first-time use.
- A compatible Remote Play client and a PlayStation account.
- A supported controller for your device, or touch controls where available.
- A game that supports Remote Play and a sufficiently reliable network.
Sony states a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps and recommends 15 Mbps for a better experience. These are Sony’s guidance, not a performance guarantee; the network environment affects play quality.
Enable Remote Play while the PS5 has a display
- On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play.
- Select Enable Remote Play. Sony says this needs to be turned on the first time before using Remote Play. See Sony’s Remote Play settings instructions.
- Install the PS Remote Play app on a supported device and follow its prompts to connect to your console.
For manual pairing, Sony’s instructions require selecting Pair Device on the PS5 and entering a number shown on the console screen. That on-screen code is the main obstacle if the console has never been paired and its HDMI output is unavailable. Sony’s reviewed instructions do not provide a universal headless setup method.

Check game and controller compatibility
Sony lists DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DUALSHOCK 4 support, with compatibility depending on the device and operating system. Some mobile devices also offer touch controls. Remote Play does not support games that require PS VR or PS VR2, games needing additional peripherals beyond the listed controllers, or games that must be streamed through PS Plus Premium. Review Sony’s current device and game limitations before choosing a client.

Use PlayStation Portal as a dedicated handheld
PlayStation Portal is a dedicated handheld Remote Play device, not a replacement for the PS5 or its HDMI port. It requires a PS5 and PlayStation account; the console must be connected to broadband, on or in Rest Mode, and paired with the Portal. Sony specifies Wi-Fi of at least 5 Mbps and recommends 15 Mbps for better play. Pairing and game limitations still apply, so Portal is most useful when the console is already configured for Remote Play.

If the PS5 HDMI OUT port is damaged
If Remote Play was enabled and the device was paired before the port failed, try connecting from that client. If the console needs first-time setup or manual pairing, the required on-screen steps may make Remote Play unavailable as a workaround. Sony identifies HDMI OUT as the console’s display connection and directs users with unresolved display issues to its repair diagnostic. Start with Sony’s PS5 resolution troubleshooting and follow its route to PlayStation Repairs and support if the issue persists. Do not assume a streaming accessory repairs the port.

| No HDMI screen, working console port | PS Remote Play app or Portal | Remote Play must be enabled; pairing, device, network, and game compatibility matter. |

| Broken HDMI OUT, console not configured for Remote Play | Investigate Sony’s repair and troubleshooting route | Setup or manual pairing may require the console screen. |
