No—not through Nintendo’s currently listed Switch games or Nintendo Switch Online libraries. Nintendo’s reviewed Pokémon Classics listings do not include Pokémon Ruby or Pokémon Sapphire. The Expansion Pack grants access to the available Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics library, not every GBA game. As of Nintendo’s cited listings, the closest official Switch alternatives are the separate Kanto remakes Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen.
Is Pokémon Ruby or Sapphire available on Switch?
Nintendo’s Americas support information does not list Pokémon Ruby or Pokémon Sapphire for Nintendo Switch, either as standalone Switch releases or in the Nintendo Classics catalog. Nintendo identifies Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team as a Pokémon title in the GBA Classics library; its support FAQ says, “We have nothing to announce regarding any other potential titles.” Nintendo’s Classics overview and its Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen FAQ are the relevant listings.

That is the current catalog answer, not a confirmation that Ruby or Sapphire will never arrive. Nintendo has not announced either game for Nintendo Classics in the cited information; catalogs may change.
Why Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack does not unlock them
The Expansion Pack includes access to the available Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics library. It does not include every game originally released for GBA, and Nintendo does not list Ruby or Sapphire in that library. A subscription therefore does not currently provide a way to play either game on Switch.
#1 Best Overall
- World Edition - plays in English and works on any region 3DS system
- Comes with both a copy of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
Nintendo’s documented Classics access route is to download and use the relevant Nintendo Classics software on Switch. It does not describe a way to insert or connect a GBA cartridge to play through that service. If you already own a Ruby or Sapphire cartridge, that copy does not make the game playable on Switch; playing the original cartridge requires compatible GBA-era hardware. Nintendo’s Nintendo Classics overview and instructions for accessing Nintendo Classics game libraries explain the Switch software route.
What you can play instead on Switch
Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen
Nintendo announced Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen as standalone digital Switch releases. They are Kanto remakes, not ports or remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, which are set in Hoenn. Nintendo’s announcement gave a U.S. suggested retail price of $19.99 and a February 27 release date in 2026; check your regional eShop for current price, language, and availability. Nintendo’s announcement has the release details.
Rank #2
- This renewed game will not come with the original case or manual; cartridge only. It has been cleaned, tested, and is in nice condition.
- The game is an authentic copy and a new save battery has been installed!
These releases do not require Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo says players can connect locally using wireless communication, but online play is not supported; its FAQ also says there are no physical releases. These details apply to FireRed and LeafGreen, not Ruby or Sapphire. Nintendo’s FAQ covers membership, connectivity, and format.

| What you want to play | Setting and relationship | Format and Switch access | Connectivity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pokémon Ruby or Pokémon Sapphire | Original Hoenn games | Original GBA cartridges; Nintendo’s reviewed Switch listings do not offer them | Not stated in the cited Switch availability sources |
| Pokémon FireRed or Pokémon LeafGreen | Kanto remakes; separate games from Ruby and Sapphire | Standalone digital Switch releases; no physical release according to Nintendo | Local wireless; online play is not supported, according to Nintendo’s FAQ |
How to check whether the catalog has changed
- Open Nintendo’s Nintendo Classics library overview and check the Game Boy Advance list for Ruby or Sapphire.
- Check Nintendo’s Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen FAQ for any announced Pokémon Classics additions.
- For FireRed or LeafGreen, search your region’s Nintendo eShop to confirm local availability, language, and current price before purchase.
If Ruby or Sapphire is still absent from Nintendo’s GBA Classics listing and eShop, there is no official Switch release listed for that game. An Expansion Pack subscription or original cartridge does not change that.
