Yes—but the PC option covered here is the original PlayStation 3 version running through the RPCS3 emulator, not the 2020 PlayStation 5 remake. RPCS3 supports Xbox/XInput and several PlayStation controllers through dedicated input handlers, and its compatibility list marks the listed PS3 game entries “Playable.” That status is not a guarantee of identical results on every PC or RPCS3 build.
Which version of Demon’s Souls can you play on PC?
RPCS3 emulates the original PS3 game. The separate 2020 remake is a PS5 title; the compatibility and controller information here does not establish that the remake runs on PC. RPCS3’s compatibility database lists the original game’s entries as “Playable,” with records dated May 4, 2020, and December 3, 2022. Compatibility classifications and emulator behavior can change, so check the current RPCS3 compatibility list for the entry and status.

How to set up a controller in RPCS3
Connect the controller, open RPCS3’s gamepad settings, choose the handler that matches the controller, and verify its profile and button bindings. RPCS3’s controller configuration guide provides current steps for supported handlers and operating systems.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsXbox or other XInput controller
Select the XInput handler in RPCS3’s gamepad settings, then check that the controller profile and bindings are correct. RPCS3 describes Xbox and third-party XInput-compatible controllers as widely supported on PC and generally usable without additional tools. In-game prompts use Xbox-style labels, and RPCS3’s guide notes that XInput does not provide motion controls or pressure-sensitive buttons.

- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
DualShock 4
RPCS3’s guide describes using the dedicated handler on Windows over USB or Bluetooth without extra setup. If DS4Windows, ScpToolkit, or similar remapping software is running, it may interfere with the dedicated handler; RPCS3 recommends disabling such tools when using that handler. Linux may require device permissions and a udev rule, so follow the guide’s current instructions for your operating system and device.
DualSense
RPCS3’s guide says the general PC-use notes for DualShock 4 also apply to DualSense. Do not assume that connecting a DualSense enables its Adaptive Triggers or HD vibration: RPCS3’s guide says those features are not currently used by RPCS3 or other PC software.

DualShock 3
RPCS3 provides a dedicated DualShock 3 handler. Its Windows guide describes multiple setup approaches, including DsHidMini and Sony’s driver; the DsHidMini v3 FAQ recommends SXS mode with RPCS3’s DualShock 3 handler. The right approach depends on controller model, driver, and operating system, so use the current project documentation rather than old forum instructions.
Which controller should you choose?
| Consideration | XInput controller | PlayStation controller |
|---|---|---|
| RPCS3 handler | Select XInput; RPCS3 describes Xbox and third-party XInput-compatible controllers as widely supported on PC. | RPCS3 has dedicated handlers for supported PlayStation controllers; setup differs by model and operating system. |
| On-screen button labels | Xbox-style labels. | Familiar PlayStation labels. |
| Motion and pressure-sensitive buttons | RPCS3’s guide says XInput does not provide these inputs. | Capabilities depend on the controller and setup; consult RPCS3’s guide for the specific handler. |
| Connection and setup | Generally supported without extra tools, according to RPCS3. | For DualShock 4 on Windows, the guide describes USB or Bluetooth through its dedicated handler; Linux can require additional permissions. DualShock 3 setup varies. |
If you already own a compatible controller, try it first; the compatibility guidance does not make buying a particular controller a prerequisite. Choose based on handler support, setup effort, the button labels you prefer, and whether the input features you need are available.

- Confirm that the controller is connected to the PC and that RPCS3’s gamepad settings use the corresponding handler.
- Check the selected profile and bindings; a connected controller may still be assigned or mapped incorrectly.
- If using the DualShock 4 dedicated handler, disable DS4Windows, ScpToolkit, or similar remapping software that may conflict.
- On Linux, check the current RPCS3 guide for device permissions and udev-rule requirements.
- For DualShock 3 on Windows, use the current RPCS3 and DsHidMini documentation for the chosen driver and mode.
Does Sony’s PC controller guidance apply to RPCS3?
Only as general context. Sony cautions that controller support can vary by game even when a DualSense is connected to a PC, but its PlayStation gaming on PC guidance concerns PlayStation games running on PC. It is not a substitute for RPCS3’s emulator-specific handler and setup instructions.
