Can You Make Money Vibe Coding? The Hard Part Comes After the App

A working vibe-coded app is not proof of a business. Learn the revenue models worth testing and how to validate demand before building further.

Yes, you can make money with a vibe-coded app—but getting a working prototype is only the first hurdle. You still need a real customer problem, a way to reach buyers, a reason they will pay, and a product or service reliable enough to keep their trust.

There is no solid evidence establishing what share of vibe-coded projects become profitable or how long they take to earn. The available examples show possible routes, not typical results. The practical shift is to stop asking only “Can I build this?” and ask “Who needs it, how will I reach them, and what would they pay to solve?”

Why shipping an app does not mean you have a business

AI coding tools can make it easier to produce a prototype, but code generation does not establish that customers want the result. A product can work in a demo and still fail to solve an urgent problem, attract buyers, or earn enough to cover acquisition and support.

Supabase’s State of Startups 2026 page reports an association: startups with more AI-generated code are less likely to be monetizing yet and more likely to identify customer acquisition as their biggest challenge. That does not show that AI-generated code causes weaker monetization. It does underline the gap between producing software and finding customers. Shteryo Dzhimov of FixSense, quoted on the page, puts the challenge this way: “The hardest is getting the first paying customer to care, because AI-native dev tooling is a crowded space where every founder ships fast but almost nobody converts.” Supabase’s State of Startups 2026

Tool adoption is not the same as vibe coding, either. In Stack Overflow’s 2025 developer survey, 84% of respondents said they use or plan to use AI tools in development, while 72% said they are not vibe coding. The same survey found that 46% distrust AI output accuracy and 33% trust it. These are findings about survey respondents, not a census of developers or aspiring founders. They are a useful reminder that human review and testing still matter when real users, data, or payments are involved. Stack Overflow 2025 Developer Survey: AI

Four ways to earn from vibe coding

These are business models to test, not guaranteed outcomes. They differ in how quickly you may reach a buyer, how repeatable revenue can become, and how much trust or ongoing work the customer expects.

Route What you sell What needs to work Main trade-off
Product you own Paid software, subscriptions, or a one-time purchase A frequent or costly problem, willingness to pay, retention, and a channel that reaches buyers Recurring revenue is possible, but acquisition, reliability, and support remain your responsibility.
Service around AI-built products Implementation, integrations, debugging, security review, performance work, or production hardening Credibility, access to customers, clear scope, and delivery that can be repeated Can be easier to explain as a specific service, but revenue depends on delivering work for clients.
Tools and information for makers Templates, starter kits, courses, or practical resources An audience that trusts you, differentiation, and meaningful time saved for buyers Tools improve and markets change, so content and products may need maintenance.
Tool referrals A disclosed referral to a tool used in a tutorial or recommendation A genuine fit for the reader and an audience willing to act on your recommendation Income depends on referral terms and conversions; it is not evidence that readers will buy your own software.

Sell a product you own

A subscription or one-time purchase works only if a buyer values the outcome enough to pay. Before adding features, check how often the problem occurs, what it costs the customer, whether they already pay for a workaround, and what would make them keep using your solution. A large audience is not required, but a reachable group with a specific need is.

Sell a service around AI-built products

Some customers have prototypes but need help making them useful in production. You could offer a defined result such as connecting an app to an existing service, fixing a broken flow, reviewing security, or improving performance. Indie Hackers reports that QuickLaunch claimed more than $120,000 in revenue in 2025 from fixing vibe-coded apps. That is a company-reported case, not an independently audited result or a typical income forecast. Indie Hackers’ QuickLaunch revenue case

Services can be a practical first offer when you can reach people who already have a problem and can show why you are qualified to solve it. Keep the scope and deliverable explicit; an open-ended promise to “fix the app” can turn into an unpredictable support obligation.

Sell tools or information to other makers

Templates, starter kits, courses, and practical resources have all been part of indie hacking. Their viability depends on whether they solve a concrete problem better or faster than a free alternative. The State of Indie Hacking also notes that founder-reported income can combine multiple sources and that an audience does not guarantee product demand. Treat an audience as a way to learn and reach potential buyers—not proof that a particular product will sell.

Refer tools you genuinely use

Lovable’s official affiliate page describes an application-based program and advertises up to $100 for each first-time subscriber referred. Application and approval are required, the stated amount is a maximum rather than a guaranteed payout, and program terms can change. A referral belongs in a tutorial or recommendation only when the tool fits the reader’s use case; disclose the relationship clearly. Lovable’s official affiliate partners page

How to test whether anyone will pay

The following sequence is practical advice, not a formula proven to guarantee revenue. Its purpose is to test demand before you spend too long polishing an unvalidated app.

  1. Choose one narrow problem. Describe who experiences it, when it happens, and what the current workaround costs in time, money, or frustration. “An app for everyone” is too broad to validate.
  2. Talk to likely buyers before building more. Ask how they handle the problem now, what happens when it is not solved, and whether they have paid for a solution. Look for specific examples of existing behavior rather than relying on compliments about an idea.
  3. Make a small paid offer. Offer a limited version, a clearly scoped service, or a paid pilot. A concrete commitment is more informative than a hypothetical answer to “Would you use this?”
  4. Find one repeatable way to reach prospects. Start with the channel where the people who experience the problem already spend time—such as a relevant professional community, direct outreach, or useful educational content. Track whether conversations lead to trials, purchases, or referrals.
  5. Improve reliability, onboarding, and retention. Review what users misunderstand, where the product breaks, and whether they return. Test AI-generated code and take responsibility for the finished system, especially if it handles user accounts, personal information, or payments.

What a revenue story can—and cannot—tell you

People asking “Are you making money vibe coding, or is everyone just lying?” are expressing understandable skepticism; a Reddit discussion title captures that question, but does not verify the claims in its thread. Reddit discussion

A reported win can show that a path exists, but it cannot tell you your odds, likely time to revenue, or profit after costs. Founder stories may combine different revenue sources, and a successful service business is not evidence that an app subscription will work. Evaluate examples by asking what was sold, who paid, how customers were reached, and whether the figure is independently verified.

Vibe coding can move some of the work away from writing syntax line by line. As Cat Wu, a project manager for Anthropic’s Claude Code, told the Associated Press, “The essence of it is you’re no longer in the nitty-gritty syntax.” Wu also says engineers remain responsible for the result. Faster production changes what is easier to build; it does not remove the work of judgment, quality, sales, or support. Associated Press on AI-assisted coding and “vibe-coding”
