Samsung’s reviewed support guidance does not show a way to lock one selected text message in the regular Galaxy inbox. You can instead add a separate copy of a messaging app to Secure Folder and protect that folder with a PIN, password, pattern or supported biometric lock. That protects an app copy—not a particular message—and Samsung’s instructions do not explain how to move an existing SMS conversation into it.

How to use Secure Folder for a separate messaging app
This is a folder-level privacy measure, not a way to lock a message that is already in your ordinary inbox.

- Check for Secure Folder: Open Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Secure Folder. Samsung Canada documents this route, but labels can differ by One UI version. If you cannot find it, search Settings for “Secure Folder.” If the feature does not appear, your device may not support it. Samsung Canada
- Set a lock: Follow the setup prompts and choose a PIN, password or pattern; biometric access may be available on supported devices. Samsung UK says setup requires a Samsung account and warns that some older models may no longer support Secure Folder. Samsung UK
- Add a messaging app: Open Secure Folder, tap Add apps, and select the messaging app if it is available. Samsung explains that the added app works independently from its version outside the folder, with separate accounts, settings and data. Samsung Canada
- Check which messages are there: The independent app copy is not a transfer of a selected conversation. Samsung’s cited instructions do not explain moving an individual SMS thread into Secure Folder, so verify the copy’s behavior on your phone rather than assuming an existing conversation is protected.
- Review notifications and auto-lock: Secure Folder has notification and auto-lock settings. Samsung Canada notes that apps can be allowed to show notifications even while the folder is locked; check the settings on your device if message previews could expose private content. Samsung Canada
What Secure Folder does not guarantee
- It does not lock just one message: Its protection applies to the folder and apps inside it, not to a selected text in the regular inbox.
- It does not automatically put your existing conversation there: Separate app data means the Secure Folder copy may not contain the ordinary app’s messages. Samsung’s cited instructions do not document a per-thread move.
- Hiding the folder icon is not the same as hiding every trace: Icon visibility and notification behavior are separate settings. Review notification previews and lock behavior rather than treating a hidden icon as complete concealment.
- Availability varies: Samsung says features can vary by device and software version. Samsung Saudi Arabia
