But that is not a promise that leaving it plugged in has no effect on battery life. Inseego says batteries wear over time, and its guide recommends approved batteries and chargers and charging near room temperature. It does not quantify any extra wear from continuous charging or specify a battery lifespan.
What the MiFi 8000 guide says about staying plugged in
Inseego’s global MiFi 8000 user guide does not prohibit continuous power or instruct users to unplug the device at full charge. It does warn that battery capacity changes with use: “It is normal for batteries to gradually wear down and require longer charging times.” The guide says a noticeable reduction in battery life can indicate that the battery needs replacement, but gives no rate or timeline for that change. For charging, Inseego states: “Always use only approved batteries and chargers with your MiFi 8000.” The guide warns that damage caused by non-approved batteries or chargers is not covered by its warranty. Do not assume that an arbitrary replacement battery or charger is compatible.

How to use it on continuous power more carefully
- Use approved accessories. Use only batteries and chargers approved for the MiFi 8000.
- Keep it in a moderate-temperature, ventilated spot. The global guide advises charging near room temperature and cautions against leaving the hotspot in an unattended vehicle, where temperatures can become too hot or too cold. Avoid enclosing it or placing it where heat cannot dissipate.
- Watch for heat-related interruptions. Weak signal, charging, and heavy data use together are a specific thermal-stress combination described in the AT&T guide.
- Check battery runtime over time. A material drop in how long it runs on battery can indicate the battery is wearing out; the guide does not give a fixed replacement interval.
Temperature limits and the AT&T model’s thermal response
The AT&T edition of the MiFi 8000 guide lists a charging range of 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F), an operating range of −10°C to 55°C (14°F to 131°F), and a storage range of −30°C to 70°C (−22°F to 158°F). For the combination of weak signal, active charging, and high data throughput, the AT&T guide describes these protections:
- At 54°C (129°F), the device reduces transmission speeds and disconnects 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- At 58°C (136°F), it disconnects the data connection.
- At 60°C (140°F), it shuts down.
- After cooling to 45°C (113°F), normal transmission and 5 GHz Wi-Fi are automatically re-enabled.
These are manufacturer-published thresholds in the AT&T guide, not independent test results. The global guide separately warns against exposing the battery to temperatures below −20°C (4°F) or above 60°C (140°F). It advises storing a battery uncharged in a cool, dark, dry place. The reviewed MiFi 8000 documentation does not state its continuous-use wattage or provide an electricity-cost estimate or a quantitative comparison of charging strategies.
