Blizzard says Mythic Prisms—the currency needed to unlock Mythic skins—cannot be earned from the free Battle Pass or Challenges. Its documented ways to get Prisms are progressing through the Premium Battle Pass or buying Prisms in-game, so neither is a free-track route.
How Mythic Prisms work
Mythic Prisms are the currency used to unlock Mythic skins and their customizations. Blizzard’s Mythic Shop FAQ says players cannot earn them through the free Battle Pass or Challenges. It also says Overwatch Coins and Credits cannot be redeemed for Prisms, so having those currencies does not provide a documented alternative.

The documented ways to get Mythic Prisms
| Route | What it involves | Is it free? |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Battle Pass | Progress through the paid pass. Blizzard’s FAQ says a completed Premium Battle Pass can award 80 Mythic Prisms, enough under the system it describes to unlock and fully customize one Mythic skin. | No. The pass is a paid option. |
| Direct Prism purchase | Buy Mythic Prisms in-game through Battle.net or the game platform’s store, as described in Blizzard’s FAQ. | No. This is a direct purchase. |
The 80-Prism figure and unlock description come from Blizzard’s FAQ; the amount required or pass rewards could change if Blizzard revises the system.
Can waiting or an old Battle Pass get you one for free?
Waiting may change which past Mythic skins are available in the Mythic Shop, but it does not provide the Prisms required to claim one. Blizzard’s 2026 patch notes also say Mythic skins and Mythic Prisms are no longer obtainable in Unvaulted passes. An old pass is therefore not a documented free workaround.

Are there exceptions?
The official sources cited here do not establish an active free Mythic giveaway. A limited-time promotion could have its own terms and dates, so check Blizzard’s announcement for any specific event rather than assuming one is available—or that promotions can never happen.
