A supported constant edit may be possible without rebuilding; changing method logic usually means inspecting or decompiling the class, editing code, and compiling in a matching mod project. Compatibility depends on the exact Minecraft release, Java requirements, and mod loader. The title’s “I Fixed” wording is not supported by verified repair details here, so this guide explains the practical workflow without claiming a particular patch was tested.
First identify the mod and the change
A mod JAR is an archive containing compiled classes and other resources. Before touching it, identify the mod’s Minecraft version, loader, and the class or behavior involved. A class from a different game release or loader build may not be interchangeable.

Fabric’s installation guidance tells players to check the Minecraft version, loader, and Java Edition before installing a mod, and to put the JAR in the instance’s mods folder: Fabric: Installing Mods. Forge mod metadata can declare Java feature requirements and Minecraft dependency ranges, among other loading information: Forge: The Mod Files.
Keep an untouched copy of the original JAR. Work on a copy so you can restore the original if the modified archive fails to load.

Choose a method based on what must change

For a value-only change
Jar Tools describes editing certain constants in a .class file without a source rebuild. Treat that as a tool-specific claim: check the editor’s documentation for the exact value and class format it supports. A change to a string or number is not the same as changing a branch, method call, or other logic. See the vendor’s class-file editing guide.
For a logic change
A more explainable route is to inspect or decompile the relevant class, edit the reconstructed source, compile it in a suitable project environment, then replace the class in the JAR or export a patched archive. Jar Tools’ Minecraft guide points to the mod’s original build environment, including the appropriate ForgeGradle or Loom setup, and matching Minecraft version and mappings: Minecraft mod editing guide. The exact setup depends on how that mod was built.

Do not assume the decompiler’s output is the original source. Names, structure, comments, and build assumptions may differ, so a class that looks understandable may still need adaptation before it compiles or behaves correctly.
For a supported Fabric class change
Fabric documents class tweakers, also called access widening, for specifying target class, method, or field identifiers in a Fabric project. Its guide calls for refreshing Gradle and regenerating sources after applying the changes: Fabric: Access Widening. Use this only when the target and project fit that documented mechanism; it does not turn an arbitrary third-party mod class into a general-purpose editable target.

Match the build and runtime environment
For a patch to load, the modified artifact has to fit the instance it is installed into. Confirm these details before compiling or testing:
- Minecraft release: use the specific game version the mod targets, rather than assuming neighboring releases are compatible.
- Mod loader: determine whether the mod is for Fabric, Forge, or another loader; do not substitute one loader’s project setup for another’s.
- Java requirement: check the mod’s declared requirements and the Java runtime used by the intended instance.
- Mappings and build tooling: for a logic rebuild, align the project’s mappings and toolchain with the mod’s environment where possible.
- Archive contents and metadata: preserve the mod’s resources and loader metadata when replacing a class or exporting a modified JAR.
Forge’s mods.toml documentation describes loader metadata, Java feature ranges, dependencies, and entrypoints. Fabric’s player instructions likewise make edition, loader, and game-version matching part of installation. Neither source establishes that a particular patched JAR will work; that must be checked in the intended setup.

Package and verify the patched JAR
- Keep the original unchanged. Save a backup and make edits to a separate copy.
- Replace only the intended class or export the patched archive. Preserve the rest of the mod’s files and metadata.
- Install it in the matching instance. Put the resulting JAR in that instance’s
modsfolder, following the relevant loader’s installation process. - Launch the exact Minecraft release with the intended loader and Java runtime. Check whether the loader recognizes the mod and whether the affected behavior works.
- If it fails, restore the original and inspect the error log. A loading error can point to a version, dependency, Java, or class compatibility mismatch; do not keep a broken JAR in the active instance.
A successful archive edit alone is not evidence that the mod works in-game. No specific bug, patch, environment, or test result is established here, so no compatibility outcome can be claimed.
When patching is not the best route
If you can express the change through a supported configuration option, an existing mod setting, or the loader’s documented development mechanism, that may be easier to maintain than modifying a third-party JAR. A one-off modified JAR can also be overwritten when the mod is updated, so keep a record of what changed and which exact mod build it applies to.

Fabric describes its toolchain as intended for Minecraft: Java Edition development and notes that developers should have Java and object-oriented programming knowledge; its developer guides point to learning resources. A beginner Java programming book can help someone starting from scratch, but it is not required for every narrowly scoped value edit.
