Can You Change an Android Phone’s Ringer Mode from a Windows 11 PC?

Phone Link can manage Do Not Disturb on supported Android setups, but it does not document a universal Windows control for ring, vibrate, or silent. Change ringer mode on the phone itself.

Not through a general ringer-mode control in Microsoft Phone Link, according to Microsoft’s reviewed documentation. To switch an Android phone between ring, vibrate, and silent, use the phone’s own Quick Settings or sound controls. Phone Link can manage Do Not Disturb on supported setups, but Do Not Disturb is a separate feature that limits interruptions rather than selecting the phone’s ringer mode.

What Phone Link can and cannot change

Phone Link connects a Windows PC to an Android phone for features such as messages, photos, calls, apps, and notifications. Microsoft documents a Do Not Disturb control, but its Phone Link feature and setup pages do not list a general control for switching the phone between ring, vibrate, and silent. That means you should not expect Phone Link to provide a universal remote ringer switch.

These settings have different purposes:

Setting What it changes Windows 11 control in Phone Link
Ring, vibrate, or silent How the phone alerts for calls and notifications Not documented as a general Phone Link control; use the Android phone’s controls.
Do Not Disturb Limits interruptions according to the phone’s settings, schedules, or modes Documented for supported setups; availability and behavior can depend on the phone and its configuration.

Microsoft’s Phone Link requirements and setup documentation describes the connection and its supported features. Its separate instructions explain managing Do Not Disturb settings in Phone Link.

Change ring, vibrate, or silent on the Android phone

Use the phone’s physical sound controls, Quick Settings, or Sound settings to select the alert behavior you want. The exact controls and labels depend on the phone’s manufacturer and Android version, so a single menu path would not apply reliably to every device. If you need device-specific steps, check the manufacturer’s guide for your model and software version.

Set up Phone Link for its supported features

If you want to use Phone Link for notifications or its documented Do Not Disturb control, confirm the requirements and pair the devices:

  • The PC must run Windows 11, or Windows 10 with the October 2022 update or later.
  • The phone must run Android 10 or later.
  • Both devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Supported phone brands and available features vary.
  1. On the PC, open Phone Link and choose Android.
  2. Follow the QR-code or manual pairing instructions shown in the app.
  3. On the phone, open or install Link to Windows, then sign in with the same Microsoft account used in Phone Link.
  4. Grant the permissions requested during setup.

Microsoft’s setup guidance lists the requirements and pairing flow. Successful pairing does not add a generic ring/vibrate/silent control.

Troubleshoot Phone Link Do Not Disturb control

If Do Not Disturb control is unavailable or does not work, the cause may be the phone’s permissions or another setting controlling interruptions. Microsoft notes these considerations for Android 15 and later:

  • Check whether Link to Windows has the required permission. On phones that expose it, look under Settings > Do Not Disturb > Mode and enable Link to Windows if available.
  • Review Do Not Disturb schedules and other modes, such as Sleep or Focus. One of them may be controlling Do Not Disturb.

For broader connection or notification problems, confirm that both devices use the same Microsoft account and trusted Wi-Fi network. Check Link to Windows notification permission, and make sure Do Not Disturb is off when testing whether notifications arrive. See Microsoft’s Phone Link connection and notification troubleshooting guidance.

Why the exact steps depend on the phone

Android menus and Phone Link support can differ by manufacturer, model, Android version, and installed Link to Windows version. Without those details, it is not possible to confirm the menu names or whether Do Not Disturb control is available on a particular phone. For a specific ring-to-vibrate or silent-mode procedure, consult the phone maker’s guide or provide the device model and Android version.
