Yes. vMix can loop video files or a playlist and stream the output to YouTube Live from a Windows VPS, provided the VPS has suitable graphics support and enough sustained outbound bandwidth. This is basic continuous looping—not a full television-style schedule with time-of-day programming—and vMix’s documentation does not certify any particular VPS configuration.
Choose List or PlayList
vMix offers two ways to loop media. Choose based on whether you are playing files directly or switching among configured vMix inputs.

Use List for a sequence of media files
List plays video and audio files as a single input. Turn on Auto Next to advance through the files, then enable its Loop control to return to the beginning when the list finishes. vMix says List does not require all videos to be loaded at once, which can reduce the resources used compared with loading each video as a separate input. See vMix’s List documentation.

PlayList sequences vMix inputs and can loop back to the beginning after the last item. Individual items can have their own start position, duration, transition, and transition time. Playlists are linked to the active preset in which they were created, so keep that preset with the configuration. vMix distinguishes this kind of basic looping from time-of-day scheduling; it does not provide full broadcast automation for programming items to start at particular times. See vMix’s scheduling guidance.

Check whether the Windows VPS is suitable
A Windows VPS is not automatically capable of running vMix just because Windows is installed. Check the actual virtual machine, its drivers, and its network before relying on it for a continuous stream.
- Windows version: vMix is Windows-only. Its current hardware requirements table specifies Windows 10 or 11. Check vMix’s supported hardware requirements and the current download page when choosing an installation.
- Graphics: vMix lists a dedicated DirectX 10.1-compatible graphics card as a minimum and recommends a dedicated NVIDIA card with at least 2 GB of memory. Graphics performance affects how many inputs, outputs, and simultaneous production tasks the system can handle. A VPS exposing only a basic virtual display may not meet those requirements; confirm GPU access and compatible drivers with the provider.
- Outbound network: The VPS needs persistent upload capacity appropriate to the stream bitrate, with extra headroom for variation. vMix lets you configure streaming quality, and its guidance notes that the internet connection affects quality. See vMix’s streaming settings documentation.
- Remote operations: Confirm you can administer the Windows instance remotely and recover access if the stream or application needs attention. The cited vMix documentation describes playback and streaming, but does not promise unattended recovery after a crash, disconnection, Windows update, or host maintenance. Plan monitoring and recovery separately.
No specific Windows VPS provider or configuration is certified by the cited vMix sources. Ask the provider directly about Windows setup, virtual GPU and driver access, continuous outbound streaming, and remote console access before committing.

Set up the YouTube stream
- Prepare and test the media: Add your local files to List or configure the vMix inputs and PlayList. Confirm the sequence advances and the loop returns to the beginning before starting a long broadcast.
- Connect vMix to YouTube: Use vMix’s YouTube Live destination workflow, or choose Custom RTMP Server and enter the destination URL and stream key supplied by the streaming provider. Keep the stream key private. vMix exposes quality settings and stream status controls; set the quality to suit the VPS’s sustained upload capacity. Details are in Streaming Settings.
- Start the broadcast and verify it: vMix’s documented YouTube workflow has the operator select YouTube Live, sign in, create a stream or select an event, and start streaming. Confirm that playback and stream status are as expected. The guide was last updated in 2021, so screen labels may have changed; follow the current screens in vMix and YouTube. The guide also says that ending the stream in vMix ends it on YouTube. See vMix’s YouTube Live setup guide.
Know what continuous looping does—and does not—automate
List and PlayList can keep cycling through media, making them suitable for a basic stream where the videos do not need to play at scheduled times. They do not create a time-of-day program schedule. If you need shows to begin at fixed hours or a complete 24/7 television workflow, looping alone does not meet that requirement; vMix’s scheduling guidance explicitly distinguishes basic 24/7 streaming from that kind of automation.
Also treat a VPS stream as an operating system and application that need maintenance. The documented loop and streaming controls do not establish that vMix will restart itself or reconnect automatically after every failure. Decide how you will detect an interruption and restore the stream, and account for provider maintenance and Windows restarts.

Troubleshooting a VPS stream
- vMix will not run or performs poorly: Check the Windows version, GPU exposure, DirectX compatibility, and graphics driver. A generic virtual display may not provide the dedicated graphics support vMix specifies.
- Playback stops at the end of the files: Check that Auto Next is enabled for List and that its Loop control is on. For PlayList, enable Loop and verify the playlist belongs to the active preset.
- The stream will not connect: Verify the selected YouTube destination or custom RTMP destination URL and stream key, then check vMix’s stream status. Ensure the VPS can maintain outbound streaming traffic.
- The broadcast is unstable or quality suffers: Compare the configured streaming quality with the VPS’s sustained upload capacity, leaving headroom for network variation. Reduce the configured quality if the connection cannot reliably support it.
- YouTube ends when vMix stops: This matches the behavior described in vMix’s YouTube setup guide. If vMix is stopped or loses its ability to stream, the documented workflow does not keep that YouTube stream alive independently.
- The stream does not resume after a crash or restart: The cited documentation does not guarantee automatic recovery for those events. Check the Windows and vMix state, restart the stream as needed, and arrange monitoring or recovery procedures appropriate to the VPS.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an uploaded-video loop on YouTube rather than a vMix production workflow, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
