Yes, URLbox can render a login-protected page when you provide valid authentication data—but the workflow in its guide does not use a URLbox Chrome extension to capture the page. It uses the separate Cookie Editor extension to export cookies from a browser session, then sends those cookies with a URLbox render request. Whether that works depends on the site and whether the session is still valid.
What the Chrome extension does—and does not do
Urlbox’s guide, “How to Take Screenshots of Web Pages Behind a Login,” published July 26, 2024, describes using the Cookie Editor browser extension to export cookies after logging into a site. Those cookies are then supplied to Urlbox, which performs the render. The guide does not describe a URLbox Chrome extension that directly captures a signed-in page.

A URL by itself usually does not carry your signed-in state. The rendering service needs authentication data that the target site accepts, such as session cookies, an authorization header, or another supported login method.
How the cookie workflow works
- Log in to the target website in a browser session.
- Export that site’s cookies with Cookie Editor, or collect them using Chrome DevTools.
- Pass the relevant cookie values with the Urlbox render request. Urlbox’s Render Options documentation describes a
cookieoption that can accept multiple cookie values. - Check the resulting image or PDF to confirm it shows the expected signed-in page, rather than a login screen or overlay.
Cookies are session credentials. Do not share exported cookie files or paste cookie values into code that others can access. Urlbox recommends using environment variables rather than hard-coding secrets in shareable code.

Other authentication methods
Cookie reuse is not the only option. Urlbox’s guide also describes URL-token authentication, Basic HTTP authentication, and authorization headers. Use a method the website itself supports; the right choice depends on its authentication design. Urlbox’s Render Options documentation describes its header option as well as cookies.
For a site with a supported token or HTTP-auth mechanism, that approach may be more suitable than exporting a browser session. Do not assume a site accepts a particular method just because the rendering service can send it.

Why a valid cookie may still show a logged-out page
Expired or changed session
Session cookies commonly expire. Urlbox’s guide also warns that cookies used for future requests may not automatically reflect later Set-Cookie updates from the site. If the capture stops showing the signed-in view, log in again and export fresh cookies before retrying.
Site-specific checks
Some sites may show a login overlay or logged-out content even when cookies are supplied. Urlbox’s guide suggests fingerprinting as one possible explanation in some cases, but does not establish it as the confirmed cause. Cookie injection is not guaranteed to work on every site.

Wrong page or incomplete capture
First verify that the cookies belong to the same site and session as the URL being rendered, and that the target page loads correctly in the logged-in browser. Capture settings are separate from authentication: Urlbox documents full-page capture and element-specific capture, but neither setting establishes a signed-in session.
Do full-page and element capture affect login?
No. Full-page mode controls how much of the rendered page is captured, while an element selector targets a particular page element. Urlbox’s “Screenshots” documentation covers those capture controls; they do not authenticate the request. Establish the session with valid authentication data first, then choose the capture extent or target element.

Reliability, performance, and cost considerations
- Reliability: Treat authenticated captures as dependent on the target site’s session lifetime and site-specific behavior. The official guide does not promise that cookie reuse works universally.
- Maintenance: When a session expires or the site changes its login behavior, you may need to refresh the exported credentials or use a different supported authentication method.
- Capture settings: Full-page or element-specific options can change what is captured, but do not fix authentication failures.
- Pricing: The cited Urlbox materials do not establish a price or billing treatment for this workflow; check Urlbox’s current plan information before estimating costs.

ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first if you want to send a screenshot request directly: it supports cookies, custom headers, and Authorization, so you can provide authentication data where the target site permits it. It does not make every site’s login flow work automatically.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor an authenticated target, supply the site’s required cookie or header as a request parameter; the simple example below demonstrates the one-call format for a public page. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for authentication parameters and request options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Cookie Editor extension take the screenshot?
No. In the workflow described by Urlbox, Cookie Editor exports browser cookies; Urlbox renders the page.
Can I use the same exported cookies indefinitely?
