HONOR’s optional Teleconverter G500 gives the Magic9 Pro Max a stated 500mm long-reach option, which could make the phone useful for distant subjects when portability and a phone-based workflow matter. But 500mm describes reach and framing—not image quality, versatility, or equivalence to a particular interchangeable-lens camera. No controlled, like-for-like test establishes that the G500 system replaces a large-camera setup.
What the Magic9 Pro Max and G500 offer
HONOR announced the Magic9 Pro Max in China on September 28, 2026. The phone has a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, f/1.57 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS), alongside a 200MP telephoto camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, f/2.6 aperture and OIS. It also has a 50MP ultra-wide camera. HONOR says the two 200MP cameras achieve CIPA 8.0 stabilization performance under the CIPA testing standard, while noting that actual results vary with shooting conditions and device settings. What “500mm” does—and doesn’t—tell you
A focal-length or equivalent-reach figure helps describe field of view and how tightly a distant subject can be framed. It does not, by itself, tell you how much detail the system resolves, how it handles noise or dynamic range, how reliably autofocus tracks a moving subject, or how often stabilization produces a sharp image. Nor does it make a phone camera interchangeable with a dedicated system that can use a broad range of lenses.
HONOR’s specifications establish the phone’s hardware and stated zoom capabilities, not comparative performance against a named camera and lens. A hands-on report about the phone and G500 is not a controlled comparison across matched subjects, lighting, framing and output size. When the G500 could make sense
Think of the G500 as a specialist long-reach option for a Magic9 Pro Max owner, rather than a demonstrated substitute for a complete camera system. It may suit someone who wants to frame distant subjects while keeping a phone-based setup. Whether it is adequate for a particular use depends on what the finished image must do.

- Concerts: Consider the light you will encounter and whether the resulting files retain enough usable detail for your intended sharing or printing.
- Travel or landscape details: Decide whether the long reach is worth carrying a phone-specific accessory, and whether you also need the framing options of other lenses.

- 【Made for Real-Life Moments】Perfect for travel, hiking, street scenes, concerts, sports events, and everyday creative shots. Great for capturing family moments, pet details, or street photography. (Best for 1.1–50 yards distance – not designed for moon or extreme long-range shots.)
- 【Fits Most Smartphones】Check Your Phone Width – Universal clip fits phones 2.8–3.9 inches (70–100mm) wide – works with iPhone, Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, and more. Macro works best at 6–14 inches (15–35cm). Does not fit iPhone Mini/SE series
How to judge it against your camera
A meaningful replacement decision requires a specific alternative. Compare the Magic9 Pro Max with G500 against the body and lens you would otherwise use, under the conditions that matter to you.
- Match the framing and light. Photograph the same subject from the same position, with comparable framing and lighting.
- Compare the final files. Use the same intended viewing or print size. Disclose processing and any crop so a large megapixel count or maximum zoom label does not stand in for delivered detail.
- Test the whole job. Assess detail, low-light quality, dynamic range, autofocus and tracking, stabilization, handling, framing flexibility, video and processing workflow, and battery and heat behavior.
- Weigh the complete kit. Consider the phone, G500 and any camera body, lenses or accessories you would need—not just the attachment’s focal-length figure.
The result can differ by subject and use: a phone setup might be convenient for one kind of distant framing yet fall short of a dedicated camera for another task. Without a named comparator and controlled tests, there is no evidence-based universal yes or no.
