Short version: being in the same Discord server usually does not let someone directly “see your IP address” just because you share a community.
Your IP becomes exposed in specific situations—most commonly when you click something malicious, join a call/screenshot/share in risky contexts, or your account/device gets compromised. Attackers don’t need the server itself; they need an action, a vulnerability, or access.

Usually, no. Discord servers don’t provide a “view member IP” feature to other users. Merely being online in the same channel doesn’t give others your public IP address.

However, people sometimes claim they “found my IP through Discord” when the real cause is something else—like a malicious link, malware, a compromised account, or a call-related interaction.
What Discord Does (and Doesn’t) Expose
Discord is designed so that regular members can’t inspect each other’s IP addresses from chat membership alone. Messages, presence, and permissions are handled through Discord’s infrastructure.
Your IP is a network-level detail. Discord generally abstracts that away from other users, similar to how eBay listing pages don’t reveal the seller’s home IP address.
How People Actually Get IP Addresses Connected to Discord
In practice, IP exposure is usually tied to one of these paths. If you haven’t done anything suspicious, your risk is much lower.
1) Direct Media/Calling Features
Voice calls, video, and screensharing can involve real-time network connections. While Discord architecture is intended to keep members from trivially extracting IPs, the details depend on how the session is negotiated and what else the attacker can do.
Common “IP grab” reports often occur after users join a call from a suspicious account or install a tool that claims to “enhance voice” or “fix echo cancellation.”
2) Clicking Links or Installing Malware
A very common route is social engineering: someone sends a link in Discord (often disguised as an invite, codec update, “server boost exploit,” or a video/music player). If you click and the site runs malicious code or you download a file, you may leak data.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsEven if malware doesn’t directly expose your IP to the other person in Discord, it can log your network info, fingerprint your device, and send it to an attacker.
3) Token or Session Theft
If an attacker steals your Discord token (your authentication credential), they can impersonate you, join servers, and send messages. Token theft doesn’t automatically mean they get your IP, but it enables follow-on attacks that can lead to IP exposure (like forcing installs or directing you to malicious URLs).

4) Fake Login or OAuth Consent Scams
Some scams ask you to “authorize” something with OAuth, claiming it’s required for moderation tools, bots, or account verification. If you approve a malicious app, it may request data, take over actions, or trick you into further installs.
Discord will still show you an approval screen, but it won’t always make malicious intent obvious.
5) Doxxing Through In-Chat Mistakes
Sometimes the IP isn’t stolen—it’s shared. Users accidentally paste it from a command output, a router page, or a troubleshooting screenshot.
Watch for messages that include terms like “ipconfig”, “ifconfig”, “netstat”, or router/admin pages. Those screenshots can reveal internal and external addresses.
6) Peer-to-Peer and Relayed Traffic Misconceptions
People often assume any real-time connection means others can see your IP. That’s not how Discord typically works for basic membership and chat.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If someone told you “the server gives everyone your IP,” treat it as misinformation. Attackers rely on user actions and compromised endpoints more than on server-level access.
Can You Be Identified Just by Being in the Same Discord Server?
Not in the straightforward way people imagine. Being in the same server doesn’t mean another member can see your IP address.
Identification can still happen for other reasons: you might reuse usernames across platforms, you might post personal info, or a malicious admin could attempt social engineering. IP specifically is still a network detail that requires a more direct mechanism than “same server membership.”

How to Check Whether Your IP Is Being Exposed
You can’t directly query “who can see my IP” inside Discord. Instead, confirm your own network identity and look for signs of compromise.
Recommended Free Tools
Verify your public IP from your own device
On a trusted device, check your public IP from a reputable source in a normal browser session. Compare it to what you see when you change networks.
Use this as a baseline so you can tell whether someone is actually claiming a value that matches your current network.
Monitor incoming connections (advanced)
If you’re comfortable with troubleshooting, you can check whether your device is making unexpected outbound requests to unknown domains while you’re using Discord.
- Windows: use
Windows Defenderand checkResource Monitorfor unusual network activity. - macOS: use
Activity Monitorand inspect network connections by process.
If you see repeated connections to suspicious executables right after you click Discord links, treat it as a strong compromise indicator.

Look for behaviors that often correlate with account compromise:
- New friends you didn’t add
- Direct messages you didn’t send
- Unexpected “authorized app” notices
- Bot-like activity from your account
- Server invites to random communities
If those happen, your risk model shifts from “IP exposure via server” to “account compromise leading to follow-on attacks.”
Reduce Risk: Practical Hardening Steps
Security wins usually come from improving account protections and reducing risky user actions.
Account controls (highest impact)
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in Discord settings.
- Turn on Login Verification if available.
- Review Authorized Apps and remove anything you don’t recognize.
- Change your password using a unique password (not reused from other services).
- Check for suspicious sessions (if the interface shows active logins, revoke anything unknown).
Do this even if you’re not sure about IP exposure. It closes the pathways attackers usually rely on.

Server and friend hygiene
- Be cautious with servers that push you to click links for “verification,” “drops,” or “codec updates.”
- Limit DMs from unknown users, especially when they request installs or verification steps.
- Don’t grant permissions to untrusted bots. If a bot asks for OAuth scopes you didn’t request, decline.
Browser and link safety
- Hover over links to see the real domain before clicking.
- Avoid shortened URLs unless you trust the sender and have prior context.
- If a “Discord invite” looks wrong (unexpected domain, misspellings, weird TLD), assume it’s malicious.
Network protections (VPN, firewall, DNS)
These don’t make you invisible to all threats, but they reduce exposure and slow down opportunistic attempts.
- Use a reputable VPN when you’re dealing with unknown servers or high-risk browsing.
- Keep your OS firewall enabled and block unknown inbound traffic.
- Use trusted DNS resolvers (or your ISP’s if you already trust it) to reduce exposure to known malicious domains.
If You Suspect Someone Tried to Get Your IP
Act quickly. Your goal is to stop follow-on compromise and remove access the attacker may already have.
Immediate steps
- Stop interacting: don’t click any links from the suspect user.
- Log out everywhere: revoke sessions if Discord provides an option for active devices.
- Change your password: immediately, and use a new unique password.
- Revoke authorized apps: remove anything you didn’t explicitly approve.
- Scan your device: run a full malware scan using built-in security tools (Windows Security or macOS trusted security software).
After you regain control
- Review your recent DMs and server messages for any links you clicked.
- Check your browser downloads history and remove unexpected installers.
- Enable 2FA if you haven’t already.
- Report the account(s) to Discord Trust & Safety with evidence (screenshots, message links, timestamps).
If multiple accounts coordinate around the same scam, treat it as organized social engineering rather than a “random IP leak.”
Discord Calling, Screensharing, and IP: Common Confusions
Voice vs video vs screenshare
Requests for “screenshare to prove you’re real” are especially common in scams. Even if the IP isn’t directly extracted, screensharing can reveal sensitive info like browser history, open tabs, personal files, or internal addresses from device screens.
If someone pressures you to screenshare content you wouldn’t normally share, don’t. Verify identity another way.
“They grabbed my IP from a server” scenarios
Most real-world “IP grab” claims trace back to one of these:
- You ran a suspicious file or browser extension after clicking a Discord link.
- You accepted an OAuth app that performed malicious actions.
- Your account was taken over, and then the attacker used you to move to the next step.
- You posted network details yourself (screenshots, copied outputs, router screenshots).
So if you truly never clicked anything, never installed anything, and never joined calls with suspicious prompts, a pure “server membership → IP revealed” explanation doesn’t hold up.

It’s still worth understanding scenarios where your IP could be exposed indirectly.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

If malware or someone logged into your device, they may see your network details directly. That’s not Discord’s fault—it’s endpoint compromise.

If you’re behind CGNAT vs a real public IP
Many residential networks use CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT). In that setup, your “public IP” may belong to your ISP pool rather than to your household specifically, which can make IP-based claims less meaningful.
Also, an attacker might learn an internal IP (like 192.168.x.x) from screenshots or device discovery, which doesn’t map 1:1 to a reachable public target.
If you’re using a VPN or proxy
If you use a VPN, the IP others see is typically the VPN endpoint—not your residential IP. That’s another reason attackers often push for actions that bypass network controls (malware, token theft, malicious links).

FAQ
Can someone see my IP just because I reacted or chatted in the server?
No. Regular chat activity and reactions don’t provide other users with your IP address.
Can Discord moderators see my IP?
Discord has internal systems and enforcement capabilities, but regular server members and typical moderators inside the community don’t get a “member IP viewer.” If you’re contacted by someone claiming they can see your IP, treat it as suspicious.
What should I do if someone threatens to DDoS me with my IP?
Don’t engage. Secure your account (2FA, password change, revoke sessions/apps), scan your device, and report the user. If you experience actual service disruption, contact your ISP and document everything for support.
Does using a VPN prevent IP-based harassment?
It can reduce what the attacker can see from standard network paths, but it doesn’t stop attacks based on malware, stolen tokens, or information you voluntarily share.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Is there a Discord setting to hide my IP?
Discord doesn’t offer a user-facing “hide IP” toggle that other members can’t obtain in all scenarios. The best protections come from account security, link safety, and avoiding risky interactions.
Bottom Line
Sharing a Discord server doesn’t automatically let someone find your IP address. When IP claims are real, they usually come from malicious links, compromised accounts, risky installs, or information you shared accidentally.
If you think you’re targeted, harden your Discord account immediately, remove unknown authorized apps, scan your device, and report the account. That’s the fastest path to stopping both IP-related harassment and the more common compromise routes.
