No. Apple’s published iPhone unlocking instructions describe Face ID, Touch ID, and passcode entry—not Siri. Siri may still respond to permitted requests while the phone is locked, but that access does not authenticate or unlock the device. This distinction follows from Apple’s separate guidance on unlocking and Siri access.
Why Siri can respond without unlocking your iPhone
iPhone has a setting called Allow Access When Locked. When Siri is enabled there, you can make permitted requests from the Lock Screen. The setting governs access to features while the device remains locked; it does not add a Siri-based unlock method. Apple’s passcode guidance lists Siri among the features that can be available when locked, while its unlocking guide explains authentication separately.

For a locked iPhone, whether Siri responds depends on your settings and the request. Siri’s availability also depends on an internet connection, and some activation options vary by model, language, and region.
How to unlock your iPhone
Use the method supported by your model and configured on the device:

Apple says the passcode is required after events such as turning on or restarting the iPhone, installing a software update, erasing the device, viewing or changing passcode settings, and installing a configuration profile. Biometrics therefore do not remove the passcode requirement.
How to use Siri from the Lock Screen
If you want Siri to respond while the iPhone is locked, check its lock-screen access setting. Menu labels can vary by iOS version; Apple’s Siri settings may appear under Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri.

- Open Settings.
- Open Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Make sure Siri is set up for voice or button activation, as applicable to your device.
- Open Settings > Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode, then enter your passcode.
- Under Allow Access When Locked, turn on Siri if you want to use it from the Lock Screen.
You can activate Siri by saying “Siri” or “Hey Siri” on supported configurations, pressing the side button on iPhones with Face ID, or pressing the Home button on models that have one. The shorter “Siri” wake phrase is available only on supported models in some languages and regions. An internet connection is required to use Siri.
Allowing Siri on the Lock Screen can be convenient, but it also means someone may be able to make the requests permitted by your settings without first unlocking the phone. Review the other items under Allow Access When Locked if you want to limit what is available from the Lock Screen.

Face ID’s attention setting
Face ID is attention-aware. When Require Attention for Face ID is on, the iPhone unlocks only when your eyes are open and you are looking at the screen. To review the option, go to Settings > Accessibility > Face ID & Attention. The setting may be off by default if VoiceOver was turned on during initial setup.
