Can Screenshotlayer capture pages behind a login? The public documentation reviewed does not confirm that you can provide the target site’s cookies, session tokens, or login credentials. Screenshotlayer documents URL-based capture and options such as custom User-Agent and Accept-Language headers, but those headers do not authenticate you to a website. If your screenshot depends on an existing signed-in session, ask Screenshotlayer support whether it currently supports secure cookie or session injection before building the workflow.
What Screenshotlayer’s public documentation confirms
Screenshotlayer is a remote screenshot API: you send a request containing its API access key and the target URL, and it captures that URL. Its public materials describe capture settings and export options, but the reviewed documentation does not establish it as a browser automation tool with a documented way to reuse an authenticated browser session.

Keep the two credentials separate. The Screenshotlayer access key authenticates your request to Screenshotlayer; it is not a login session for the website being captured. Screenshotlayer advises keeping account credentials secret. Do not put a target-site password or live session token in a URL.

The official FAQ confirms custom User-Agent and Accept-Language headers. It does not document target-site cookies, session tokens, or arbitrary Authorization headers. The evidence therefore does not support a reliable setup recipe for a login-gated page.

A User-Agent identifies the apparent browser client, while Accept-Language communicates a language preference; neither establishes that the target site has authenticated the request. Before relying on Screenshotlayer for private or account-only pages, ask its support team whether cookie/session injection or the specific Authorization mechanism you need is supported, how credentials are transmitted and protected, and whether the feature applies to your plan. The public materials reviewed do not answer those questions.
Documented capture options and practical limits
Screenshotlayer’s homepage describes a request built around an access key and target URL, with optional capture controls. The FAQ and product page describe the following capabilities; confirm exact parameter names and behavior in the current interactive documentation before implementation.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
- Headers: custom User-Agent and Accept-Language are documented in the FAQ.
- Rendering: the product page describes viewport dimensions, full-page capture, capture delay, and custom CSS.
- Output and export: the FAQ lists PNG, JPEG, and GIF. The homepage also describes thumbnails and exports to AWS S3 or FTP.
- Cache: the FAQ states that the default screenshot cache TTL is 2,592,000 seconds (30 days); its
ttlparameter can set a shorter custom lifetime. - Other product-page options: the homepage describes cache lifetime, forced refresh, and URL encryption. Verify availability and parameter details in the current documentation.
These controls can help with public pages or presentation differences, but they do not resolve the core login question. In particular, a delay may allow a page to render; it cannot by itself create an authenticated session.

How to evaluate a login-gated capture workflow
Before selecting a capture method, identify what the target site requires and verify that the capture service can supply it. The first two checks below decide whether Screenshotlayer can meet a login-dependent requirement; its reviewed public documentation leaves them unresolved.

- Identify the authentication mechanism. Determine whether access depends on a browser cookie, a bearer token, an Authorization header, a login form, or another site-specific flow.
- Confirm supported browser state. Ask Screenshotlayer directly whether it supports the required credential or session mechanism, how securely it is handled, and what current documentation describes it. Do not assume a parameter exists because another screenshot API offers one.
- Check rendering behavior. If authentication is confirmed, establish whether the page needs a render delay and whether the result should cover the viewport or the full page.
- Check cache behavior. Decide whether a cached image could be stale or inappropriate for private content. The FAQ’s default is 30 days; it documents custom TTL values lower than that default. Confirm how caching interacts with any authenticated capture before sending private pages.
- Confirm delivery and operating needs. Verify output format, export destination, monthly volume, concurrency, and commercial-use terms against current service information.
Pricing, plans, and reliability claims
Screenshotlayer’s pricing page lists 100 monthly snapshots on Free, 10,000 on Basic, 30,000 on Professional, and 75,000 on Enterprise. Prices and plan terms can change, so check the live pricing page before purchasing or comparing allowances. Plan capacity does not establish that authenticated capture is supported.
The FAQ describes API uptime as “around 99.9%,” while also saying public uptime statistics are not offered. That is Screenshotlayer’s own claim, not an independently verified measurement. Its Terms & Conditions page says it was last modified on 17 February 2018; check current terms rather than relying on that dated page for a present-day contractual decision.

ScreenshotNeo as an alternative to try first
If the key requirement is supplying authenticated state, verify the provider’s current supported authentication options before migrating or sending credentials. ScreenshotNeo documents custom headers, cookies, and Authorization as capture options, so it is an alternative to evaluate first for that requirement. Its API can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one GET request. See the ScreenshotNeo website and API documentation for setup and supported parameters.
For example, this cURL request captures a public page. Replace the target URL and provide your ScreenshotNeo API key; for an authenticated page, use the documented credential options only where you are authorized to access and capture the content.

Troubleshooting: why a protected page may not appear
- The result is a login page. The capture request may not have an authenticated session. User-Agent and Accept-Language do not supply one. Confirm cookie/session or Authorization support with the provider rather than guessing at undocumented parameters.
- The request is rejected. Check that the Screenshotlayer access key is valid and that the target URL is correct. Remember that the service key authenticates your API request, not your target-site account.
- The screenshot is incomplete or appears too early. The page may need additional rendering time. Screenshotlayer documents a configurable delay; check current parameter details and test on non-sensitive content first.
- The image looks stale. A cached result may be returned. Screenshotlayer’s FAQ states a 30-day default cache TTL and documents shorter custom TTLs. Verify the current cache controls and their interaction with authenticated content before relying on them.
- A requested control does not work. Product-page descriptions are not a substitute for current parameter documentation. Check the interactive docs for exact names, accepted values, plan availability, and export requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a custom User-Agent log me in to a website?
No. It changes the client-identification header; it does not provide the target site with an authenticated session.
Is Screenshotlayer’s 30-day cache lifetime mandatory?
No. Its FAQ says the default TTL is 2,592,000 seconds and that the ttl parameter can specify a shorter value.
