Not on the evidence available. Meta is giving AI a more prominent place in its product story, but its September 2026 announcements also describe new VR hardware and continue to position Quest as a gateway to the metaverse. That points to a shift in emphasis—not proof that Meta has replaced the metaverse, or that people have forgotten it.
What is Meta Muse?
Meta describes Muse as a personal AI agent launched in September 2026. The company says the agent can answer questions, complete tasks, browse the web, make purchases, generate images, create documents, and connect to apps and services. Those are Meta’s descriptions of its product, not independent tests or a guarantee that every feature is available to every account or region. Meta’s Muse page describes the agent’s capabilities.

Meta announced that it plans to bring Muse to AI glasses “in the coming months.” In the company’s description, a wearer will be able to ask about something they are looking at and ask Muse to act on it. That is a planned integration, not confirmation that the feature is available on every pair of glasses now. Check Meta’s current availability details for your region before relying on it.
Muse and Muse Spark are different names for different things
Meta’s April 2026 announcement calls Muse Spark the first model in a new series and says it powers Meta AI. A May update said Muse Spark was gradually rolling out on Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses in the United States and Canada. The later Muse page describes the user-facing personal agent. The names are related, but they should not be treated as interchangeable: Muse is the agent; Muse Spark is a model in the series Meta says powers Meta AI.

What does Meta mean by “the metaverse”?
Meta’s definition is a company vision, not a settled industry standard. Its metaverse explainer calls it “the next evolution in social connection and the successor to the mobile Internet.” The explanation includes familiar 2D experiences, digital experiences projected into the physical world, and immersive 3D environments, accessed on devices such as phones, computers, and VR headsets.
In its current metaverse overview, Meta describes VR use cases including fitness, gaming, social connection, entertainment, and productivity. It calls Quest a gateway to the metaverse and says AI glasses can also become gateways. So the company’s own framing does not set AI glasses and VR up as mutually exclusive: both can be ways into a broader set of digital experiences.

How the Muse and metaverse visions differ

The distinction is useful, but not absolute. Muse is framed around assistance with tasks; the metaverse is framed around experiences and connection. Meta’s stated plan to make Muse available through glasses could bring an AI assistant into the same wearable-device family that the company describes as a possible metaverse access point.

The September 2026 announcements do not establish that. Meta said Muse was coming to AI glasses, and the same Connect announcements covered Meta VR Glasses, new AI-glasses models and styles, and continuing updates to Meta Ray-Ban Display. Meta also continues to describe Quest and VR as central access points for social and immersive experiences on its metaverse pages. Taken together, those statements support a narrower conclusion: AI and wearables are receiving prominent attention while VR activity and metaverse positioning continue.

Meta said it plans to have “more than 100 styles of AI glasses” by the end of 2026. That is a company-stated plan, not a count of models currently shipping. It also described its announced Meta VR Glasses as weighing “about 100 grams”; that is Meta’s approximate figure, not an independent measurement. Neither figure demonstrates audience interest, commercial success, or a change in investment scale.
Meta’s own product pages are authoritative about what the company says it intends to build, but they do not independently prove its priorities, spending, product quality, or adoption. The announcements show a broader AI-and-wearables push alongside VR activity; they are not evidence that the metaverse has been abandoned.

Has Muse made people forget the metaverse?
That question is about audience attention, and Meta’s product announcements cannot answer it. The available sources provide no independent measure of whether people remember the metaverse, whether interest has fallen, or whether Muse has displaced it. Device plans and product descriptions are not substitutes for audience research.

It is not fair to turn that observation into a claim that the public has forgotten the metaverse—or that Muse has replaced it. The evidence supports a change in emphasis, not a measured change in what people think.
