For YouTube, the documented route is to send a live feed from an encoder using YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. Treat IBM’s playlist looping and YouTube delivery as separate workflows unless IBM confirms a current integration for your account.
What IBM’s Live Playlist loop does
IBM’s loop setting applies to a Live Playlist broadcast on IBM Video Streaming. When looping is enabled, the playlist’s videos start over and repeat until the configured loop stop time. IBM describes this as simulated-live programming: the videos are prerecorded, but the playlist is presented as a live event. Chat and Q&A can remain live during the event.
This is a loop on IBM Video Streaming, not documentation of an IBM-to-YouTube output. IBM’s guidance for embedding a playlist player on an external website describes embedding playback, not sending the playlist as a feed into YouTube.

Requirements before using an IBM Live Playlist
- For first use, IBM’s current best-practices guidance says the channel must first complete a true live broadcast from an encoder or streaming app lasting more than two minutes.
- Each video in a Live Playlist must be longer than two minutes.
- Schedule a manual Live Playlist, enable loop broadcast, and set the loop stop time. The playlist repeats until that stop time.
These are IBM Video Streaming requirements; they do not establish that the playlist can be routed to YouTube.
How to send a live stream to YouTube
YouTube documents an encoder-based workflow: create a YouTube live stream, then connect an encoder to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. That explains YouTube’s ingestion method, but it does not identify an encoder that accepts IBM Live Playlists or confirm compatibility between the two products.

- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s setup guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- Create the YouTube live stream. In YouTube’s live-stream setup, create or select the stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Follow the current YouTube Studio prompts for the event you are creating.
- Configure an encoder that can provide the content. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder. If you want prerecorded video to appear live, the encoder or another supported part of your setup must supply that video as a live feed. The documentation cited here does not establish that IBM’s playlist feature can serve as that feed.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, share it publicly, or include it in screenshots. Use YouTube’s controls to replace it if it is exposed.
- Start the feed and verify the YouTube preview. Confirm the image and audio in YouTube’s live setup before starting the event for viewers. If you need a continuous loop, confirm that your chosen encoder setup actually repeats the video; the IBM playlist loop alone is not evidence that YouTube will receive it.
For YouTube’s encoder workflow, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. The cited guidance establishes the general URL-and-key method, not a specific IBM relay or third-party bridge. If direct IBM integration is essential, ask IBM whether your account, plan, or a supported integration can provide it. The available documentation does not confirm such a route, but that is not proof that every possible workaround is impossible.
Rights and platform rules still apply
Before streaming prerecorded video or audio, confirm you have the rights needed to use it in a livestream, including music rights. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place responsibility for those rights on the provider. A video being prerecorded or played through a playlist does not remove that responsibility.
