Yes. Firefox Screenshots’ Download option saves a PNG in Firefox’s default download folder. To use a different folder, change Firefox’s download destination; Mozilla Support forum guidance also says you can choose a location for each save, though reports there vary.
Save a Firefox screenshot to your downloads folder
- Open Firefox Screenshots from the page’s context menu or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. You can also add a Screenshot button to the toolbar.
- Select the area you want to capture: a region, a highlighted page element, the visible page, or the full page.
- Choose Download. Firefox saves the screenshot as a PNG in the folder it uses as its default download location, as described in Mozilla’s Firefox Screenshots help article.
Choose a different folder
Firefox Screenshots follows Firefox’s download destination. Change the browser’s default download folder in Firefox Settings if you want screenshots to go to a particular folder by default. For a folder choice each time, Mozilla Support forum guidance says the Always ask you where to save files setting also applies to screenshots. However, people in the discussion report different results, so do not assume the prompt behaves identically on every installation or platform. See the Mozilla Support discussion if the setting does not work as expected.

Download or copy: what’s the difference?
- Download creates a PNG file in the default download folder, or prompts for a location if the relevant save-prompt setting works in your setup.
- Copy sends the captured image to the clipboard instead of saving it as a file. Paste it into an image editor, document, or message.
Troubleshooting screenshots that do not appear in the chosen folder
- It went to the wrong folder: check Firefox’s default download destination and whether Always ask you where to save files is enabled. The prompt behavior is described in forum guidance, and user reports differ.
- The file is not visible: confirm you selected Download, rather than Copy, then check Firefox’s configured download folder and download history.
- Firefox cannot save there: check that the destination folder exists and that your account has permission to write to it. Try a folder you can access.
- The setting or result differs by device: the official help documents saving to the default download folder but does not give a complete, version-by-version settings walkthrough. Check your Firefox version and current download settings; behavior may vary.
