Not in a way Anthropic’s documentation confirms. Claude for Android can prepare actions involving supported apps, but its documented flow asks you to open the relevant app and review or complete the action there. Anthropic does not say that those tasks continue autonomously in the background or after you lock your phone.
What happens when Claude uses an Android app?
Claude can work with selected native and third-party Android apps for tasks involving messaging, email, calendars, alarms, timers, location services, maps and, for eligible users, Health Connect. This is app integration—not unrestricted control of your phone. Anthropic’s Android-app guide describes Claude offering a card or prompt when an app action could help.

For a message or email, you tap the offered card to open the relevant app, check the prepared content, make any edits, and send it there. Location and calendar features require permission if you have not already granted it. The documented interaction therefore includes your review and action in the target app; it does not establish that Claude will finish the task unattended while the phone is locked. No lock-screen access is documented. Anthropic describes the Claude widget as a home-screen widget with shortcuts to start a conversation, open a camera-enabled chat, or begin voice dictation. It requires Android 8.0 Oreo or later. That makes it a quicker way to start using Claude, not a documented lock-screen control or persistent background service. Anthropic’s widget guide was dated July 9, 2026.

Can Claude voice mode keep running with the screen off?
Voice mode is available in Claude Mobile on Android. To start it, open the Claude app and tap the voice-mode control; voice mode is a spoken conversation, unlike dictation, which turns speech into text for a prompt. Anthropic also says connected tools can be used during a voice conversation. However, its voice-mode instructions do not confirm that the session continues after you switch apps or lock the screen. Do not assume that starting voice mode guarantees screen-off use.
Important limits on Android app actions
- Reminders: Anthropic documents reminders as an iOS-only feature; Claude cannot create or manage reminders on Android.
- Contacts: Claude does not have direct access to contacts.
- Calendar edits: Whether Claude can edit an event depends on whether you own it.
- Location: Team and Enterprise members cannot use the location tool, according to the Android-app guide.
- Health Connect: This beta feature requires Android 14 or later and is limited to users in the United States on Pro or Max plans. It is read-only: Claude can analyze Health Connect data but cannot add or change entries.
