Yes, changing a TV’s service-menu settings can cause an operational problem, and a manufacturer may deny coverage for a related fault under the warranty that applies to your set. But the available warranty terms do not establish that simply opening the service menu automatically voids every TV warranty. The outcome depends on your model, region, warranty wording, what changed, and whether that change caused the problem.
Does entering the service menu void the warranty?
The reviewed warranty terms do not set out a universal rule that entering a service menu, by itself, cancels a TV’s warranty. They describe exclusions for particular kinds of damage, adjustment, misuse, or modification. That distinction matters: opening a menu is not the same as changing a setting, and changing a setting is not, by itself, proof that it caused a later fault.

Service-menu settings can affect how a television operates. If the TV malfunctions after a change, the manufacturer may examine whether the fault is connected to that adjustment and whether the applicable warranty excludes it. The sources cited here do not establish which settings cause which failures on particular models, so there is no reliable model-independent list of settings that will damage a TV.

Warranty exclusions differ by manufacturer, product, and region. These examples illustrate the variation; they are not a substitute for the terms supplied with your own TV.

These clauses do not establish that every service-menu adjustment is automatically excluded. Check the warranty for your exact model and purchase, including any regional terms. A manufacturer’s warranty is also different from a separately purchased service contract; the FTC explains that distinction.
What matters if a setting change is followed by a fault?
- Whether you changed anything: Accessing a menu and altering a value are different events.
- What the warranty excludes: Terms may address improper adjustment, unauthorized modification, misuse, or resulting damage. The precise wording and scope vary.
- Whether the change caused the reported problem: A fault appearing afterward does not, on its own, establish causation. The cited warranty documents do not identify the effects of individual service-menu settings across TV models.
Do not assume that an unrelated future fault is automatically excluded because the menu was opened. Equally, a warranty does not guarantee coverage for damage that falls within an applicable exclusion. The exact claim depends on the written terms and circumstances.

What U.S. FTC guidance does—and does not—say
For U.S. readers, the Federal Trade Commission says a company generally cannot deny warranty coverage solely because a consumer used an independent repairer or a third-party part. It may, however, refuse coverage for damage caused by that part or service. The FTC’s guidance concerns repair restrictions; it is not a definitive ruling that every service-menu change is protected or covered. See the FTC’s discussion of repair restrictions.

What to do if the TV starts malfunctioning
- Stop changing settings. Further adjustments can make it harder to identify what changed.
- Write down the details. Record the TV’s model and serial number, the date of the change, the original and changed values if known, and the symptoms. Do not guess at settings you cannot verify.
- Gather purchase and coverage records. Keep the receipt and the warranty or service-contract terms. The FTC advises consumers to retain these records and contact the seller or manufacturer about product problems; see its warranty guidance.
- Ask the seller or manufacturer about your claim. Describe what was changed and what happened, and ask how the written terms apply to the specific fault. If you have a separately purchased service contract, check its terms as well.
