Yes. AWS Elemental MediaLive can take an MP4 file as a video-on-demand (VOD) input and repeat it continuously. Attach the file input to a channel, set Source end behavior to LOOP, configure a YouTube output with the current ingest details shown in YouTube Live Control Room, and start the channel. The loop continues only while the MediaLive channel and YouTube destination remain operational.
How MediaLive loops an MP4
MediaLive separates the workflow into a source, a channel that ingests and transcodes the source, and an output destination. An MP4 is a file-based VOD source, not a live input. MediaLive can pull supported MP4 files from Amazon S3 or an HTTP(S) server. When the file ends, the input attachment’s Source end behavior: LOOP tells MediaLive to begin reading it again from the start. AWS describes this setting as allowing a file input “to be streamed indefinitely.” That describes the input behavior; the channel and destination still need to stay available.

AWS’s example S3 input URL format is s3ssl://bucket-name/object-key.mp4. Use the actual bucket and object key for your file. AWS also documents workflows for prerecorded MP4 delivery to social channels and MediaLive output to YouTube, but those examples are guidance rather than a guarantee that a particular account’s channel configuration is already correct.

Set up a continuous MP4 stream to YouTube
- Make the MP4 reachable. Store it in an Amazon S3 bucket or serve it from an HTTP(S) endpoint supported by MediaLive. Confirm the channel can access the file location.
- Create the MediaLive input. Create an MP4 input for the source. For an S3 object, AWS’s documented URL pattern is
s3ssl://bucket-name/object-key.mp4. - Attach the input and enable looping. Attach the file input to the MediaLive channel. In the input attachment settings, set Source end behavior to LOOP.
- Configure the YouTube output. In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the current ingest protocol and destination details for the intended live stream. Configure the MediaLive channel output for those values and the applicable protocol. Do not assume a fixed endpoint or protocol from an older example; YouTube’s current channel details are the ones to use.
- Start and monitor. Start the MediaLive channel, then check YouTube Live Control Room for stream health. Monitor both the AWS channel and YouTube destination: looping the source does not by itself recover a stopped channel or resolve a failed destination.
What to verify before relying on the loop
- Input availability: The S3 object or HTTP(S) file must remain accessible to MediaLive.
- Loop setting: Verify that the file input attachment—not merely the output—uses LOOP as its source-end behavior.
- Destination configuration: Use the current YouTube Live Control Room ingest information for that stream and confirm the channel output uses the corresponding supported protocol.
- Operational continuity: The repeat behavior handles the file reaching its end; it does not mean the channel, source endpoint, or YouTube ingest cannot fail. Check channel and destination health while the stream is running.
