Can an RTX 4070 Ti Use RTX 50-Series Features? DLSS 4 vs. Multi Frame Generation

DLSS 4 includes upgrades that work across RTX generations, but NVIDIA officially limits Multi Frame Generation to RTX 50-series. An RTX 40-series workaround is unofficial, and the reported hands-on test was on a 4070 Super—not a 4070 Ti.

Yes, an RTX 4070 Ti can use some features marketed with DLSS 4, but it does not officially support RTX 50-series Multi Frame Generation. NVIDIA makes DLSS model upgrades available across RTX generations, while its documented Multi Frame Generation override is limited to RTX 50-series GPUs. Reports describe an unofficial workaround for RTX 40-series cards, but the available hands-on coverage tested an RTX 4070 Super—not an RTX 4070 Ti—so it does not verify results on the exact card in this headline.

What “RTX 50-series features” means on an RTX 4070 Ti

DLSS 4 is a suite of features, not a single capability restricted to one GPU generation. NVIDIA says the transformer-model upgrade for Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA is available to all GeForce RTX users. Its Frame Generation model upgrade covers RTX 40- and RTX 50-series cards. Multi Frame Generation (MFG), by contrast, is officially limited to RTX 50-series users through NVIDIA’s override documentation.

NVIDIA’s comparison of the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 5070 Ti makes the distinction visible: conventional Frame Generation appears for the RTX 40-series, while Multi Frame Gen (4X Mode) is labeled for RTX 50-series. In other words, the 4070 Ti can gain DLSS model improvements without acquiring every feature associated with the DLSS 4 name.

NVIDIA’s support article, “Enabling DLSS 4 overrides in NVIDIA App”, listed a minimum 572.16 Game Ready Driver and NVIDIA App 11.0.2.312 when it was updated February 3, 2025. Those are the documented minimums in that article, not a guarantee that every current game, app version, or driver behaves identically.

What Multi Frame Generation adds—and what it does not

NVIDIA describes MFG as generating up to three AI-created frames for each traditionally rendered frame. That is a product description of the feature, not a promise of a matching increase in native rendering performance. Generated frames can raise the displayed frame rate, but they do not mean the GPU is rendering the same number of additional complete frames in the conventional sense. Assess the result alongside image quality and latency, rather than treating the displayed frame-rate number as the whole story.

NVIDIA’s stated technical rationale is a changed network architecture combined with RTX 50-series hardware capabilities. Its research explanation says the new MFG architecture splits the neural component of DLSS 3 Frame Generation in half, reuses part of the network across an input-frame pair, and runs a smaller portion for each generated output frame. NVIDIA says this is intended to help meet latency targets and improve flow estimation; its Blackwell announcement identifies fifth-generation Tensor Cores in the new GPUs. A software workaround on an older card does not add Blackwell hardware or establish that performance and support are equivalent.

The timing figures NVIDIA publishes are hardware- and context-specific: its research page says one 4K DLSS 3 generated frame took around 3.25 ms on an RTX 4090, while each of three DLSS 4 generated frames averaged around 1 ms on an RTX 5090 at launch. These are NVIDIA’s figures, not independent current benchmarks, and they should not be applied to an RTX 4070 Ti.

Can you unofficially unlock MFG on an RTX 40-series card?

PC Gamer reported an unofficial workflow for RTX 40-series cards using ReShade HDR Installer to install “RTX 40 MFG” and “OptiScaler,” followed by a profile override. That coverage advises checking that the game supports MFG. It is a reported mod-based workaround, not an NVIDIA-approved configuration or an official feature entitlement.

Security and anti-cheat warning: PC Gamer cautions that unofficial files can trigger anti-cheat detection. The report recommends choosing a single-player game; that does not establish that every multiplayer title or anti-cheat system will detect the files, nor does it make use in multiplayer safe. Do not use the workaround where detection could put an account or match at risk.

The report’s hands-on example used an RTX 4070 Super. A separate PC Gamer account also describes testing on a 4070 Super. Neither establishes reliable operation, image quality, frame rates, or latency on the exact RTX 4070 Ti model. Compatibility can also change as game support, drivers, NVIDIA App versions, and mod versions change.

What the RTX 4070 Super report says about the experience

PC Gamer’s hands-on report describes its reporter’s unofficial RTX 4070 Super experience as surprisingly smooth, while also noting concerns that can accompany MFG. The same coverage warns about blurry generated frames and latency even with official MFG on RTX 50-series cards. Those observations are specific to the reporter’s setup and are not a measured result for an RTX 4070 Ti.

Results depend on the game, whether it supports MFG, and which frame multiplier it offers; not every game provides every multiplier. Frame rate alone cannot establish whether the trade-off is worthwhile: inspect motion and image quality, and consider responsiveness as well.

Keep the 4070 Ti, try the workaround, or upgrade?

Option Support and compatibility Image quality, latency, and risk When it may make sense
Keep the RTX 4070 Ti and use supported DLSS features NVIDIA supports the DLSS model upgrades for RTX users and conventional Frame Generation for RTX 40-series. Official MFG override support is RTX 50-series only. Uses documented features rather than an MFG unlock; assess each game’s image quality and responsiveness in practice. When you want supported DLSS improvements without changing hardware or installing unofficial files.
Try the unofficial RTX 40-series MFG workaround Unofficial; depends on compatible games and changing driver, app, and mod versions. Reported RTX 4070 Super coverage does not verify the RTX 4070 Ti. Generated frames may involve image-quality and latency trade-offs. Unofficial files can trigger anti-cheat detection. Only for experimentation in a compatible single-player game when you accept the support, update, and detection risks.
Upgrade to an RTX 50-series card NVIDIA documents MFG for RTX 50-series, and its comparison labels 4X MFG for that generation. Official support does not eliminate the need to judge image quality and latency in the games and settings you use. When official MFG support matters enough to justify the hardware cost for your target resolution and refresh rate.

NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series comparison pairs the RTX 5070 Ti with the RTX 4070 Ti. Its performance visuals use specified games, settings, and feature modes, so they are not a universal ranking for every workload. The comparison can help identify the product generation with official 4X MFG support; it cannot by itself determine whether an upgrade is worthwhile for a particular budget or display.

Bottom line on the headline

An RTX 4070 Ti can use DLSS upgrades available to RTX GPUs, and reports describe an unofficial way to expose MFG behavior on RTX 40-series cards. That does not make the 4070 Ti a Blackwell GPU or give it official RTX 50-series MFG support. The hands-on evidence cited here concerns an RTX 4070 Super, so a claim about how well the unlock works on an RTX 4070 Ti needs model-specific testing before it can be treated as established.
