Yes—if Samsung still offers firmware for your exact TV model and region. First try Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. If the TV cannot connect to the internet, Samsung also documents updating by USB. If the local support page lists no newer firmware, the TV is already at the latest version available for that model; this does not upgrade it to the operating system or app support of newer televisions.
Check whether Samsung offers an update for your TV
Firmware availability depends on the TV’s full model code and the country or region for which it was sold. Find the code under Settings > Support > About this TV, or read it from the label on the back of the set. Search for that exact code on Samsung’s support site for your region and open its downloads. Do not select a file based only on screen size, series name, or approximate year. See Samsung Canada’s update instructions and Samsung US support.

Compare the software version installed on the TV with the version listed on the exact-model support page. If there is no newer file or the TV reports that no update is available, Samsung UK says the set is already on the latest version available for it. That means no later firmware is listed for that model—not that the set can be upgraded to the newest Samsung TV operating system. Samsung UK explains what “no update available” means.
Update over the internet
Use the built-in update check when the TV has a stable internet connection. Menu names can differ by model and software version; some sets place Support inside All Settings.

- Connect the TV to the internet.
- Open Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. If needed, try Settings > All Settings > Support > Software Update.
- If an update is offered, follow the on-screen prompts. Keep the TV powered on and connected until installation finishes and the set restarts.
- If no update is found, check the full model code and compare the installed version with the file listed on the local Samsung support page for that model.
An Auto Update option may also be available. Samsung’s Singapore instructions describe the update process; available settings and menu layout vary by TV.
Install firmware by USB when an online update is not practical
USB is Samsung’s documented offline update method. The firmware must match the TV’s exact model, and the model-specific support page’s instructions take precedence because USB preparation can vary.

- Record the full model code from Settings > Support > About this TV or the rear label.
- Go to the Samsung support page for your region, search for that exact model, and download its firmware package if a newer one is listed.
- Follow the model page’s directions for preparing the USB drive and placing the files. Samsung US’s general guide specifies an empty, FAT32-formatted USB device; Samsung Canada says to extract the downloaded package and follow the instructions on the model’s page.
- Insert the drive into the TV. If it does not start the update automatically, open Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now and follow the prompts.
- Leave the TV on and do not remove the USB drive while the update is installing. Wait for the TV to restart before removing it.
See Samsung US’s USB update guidance and Samsung Canada’s model-specific instructions. Video and audio settings may reset after an update, so check them if the picture or sound seems different afterward.

Firmware updates are not the same as operating-system upgrades
A firmware update installs software Samsung makes available for a particular TV. It does not necessarily replace the TV’s operating system with the newer platform used on current sets. An OS-upgrade program, where offered, has its own eligibility rules and is not a general route for upgrading every older television.

For example, Samsung Malaysia describes an OS-upgrade program for certain 2023 Smart TVs, monitors, and projectors, with model exceptions. Eligibility and schedules can vary by country, and that program’s upgrade cannot be reversed. It should not be taken as evidence that older TVs qualify. - Software Update is unavailable: An app may still be running in the background. Return to the TV source or press Samsung TV Plus on the remote, then check the menu again, as Samsung US advises.
- The TV finds no update: Confirm the model code, region, and installed software version against the exact-model local support page. If no newer firmware is listed, there may be nothing newer available for that set.
- The USB update does not start: Make sure the package is for the exact model and is not older than the software already installed. If the download or copy may have been corrupted, extract the package again and recopy it, following the model page’s file-placement directions.
- The TV or apps still have problems: An update can help with some app issues, but it cannot guarantee continued support for every service on an older model. Samsung’s app troubleshooting steps also include cold booting the TV, deleting and reinstalling the app, and resetting Smart Hub. Check app availability for the TV model and region before assuming an update will restore an app.
