Can an Indian YouTube Channel With a Community Guidelines Warning Go Live?

A Community Guidelines warning is not automatically a live-stream ban. Learn how to distinguish a warning from a strike or restriction and check an Indian channel’s eligibility.

Usually, yes. YouTube’s general eligibility guidance does not say that a Community Guidelines warning alone automatically prevents a channel from going live. The key checks are whether the channel is verified, whether it has had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and whether the person starting the stream is at least 16. For an Indian channel, YouTube’s published guidance reviewed here states these general rules rather than a separate India-only rule. Your channel’s notice and current status in YouTube Studio determine the account-specific answer.

Warning, strike, and live-stream restriction are different

Do not assume that every policy notice blocks live streaming. YouTube distinguishes a warning from a strike, while its general live-stream eligibility check asks whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.

Status What it means for going live What to check
Community Guidelines warning A warning alone is not listed as an automatic live-stream ban. Read the notice for any live-stream limitation, appeal option, or eligible policy training.
Community Guidelines strike A first strike prevents posting, including live streams, for one week from acknowledgement. A second strike within the same 90-day period prevents posting for two weeks. Three strikes within that period may lead to channel termination. Check the strike notice and when the penalty began. A strike remains on the channel for 90 days.
Explicit live-stream restriction Live access may be disabled temporarily or permanently. YouTube cites policy-related reasons, including a Community Guidelines strike or a removed live stream, and certain copyright circumstances. Follow the restriction notice; do not try to stream from another channel to get around it.

YouTube says most features and programs remain available after a strike, but strikes may affect monetization. A strike on an active or archived live stream may also disable live-stream access. These account-standing effects are separate from the general eligibility test.

Check whether your channel can go live

  1. Open YouTube Studio and review the channel’s current status. Look for the enforcement notice and confirm whether it calls the action a warning, a strike, or a live-stream restriction.
  2. Confirm channel verification. YouTube requires a verified channel for live streaming.
  3. Check the 90-day live-stream restriction window. YouTube’s general guidance says a channel must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
  4. Confirm the streamer’s age. The person starting the stream must be at least 16 under YouTube’s current general guidance.
  5. Follow the notice’s next steps. If the warning is eligible for policy training, the notice explains how to complete it. If you believe an enforcement action is mistaken, use the appeal route provided by YouTube.

YouTube Help’s live-stream eligibility guidance states that a channel needs verification and must have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Because enforcement is account-specific, the notice in your Studio is more useful for determining your current access than a general rule alone.

What happens to a warning?

Some warnings are eligible for optional policy training. YouTube says that if you complete the eligible training, the warning expires after 90 days counted from training completion. Not every warning qualifies, so check the notice for the training option and instructions. A repeat violation of the same policy during the 90-day period can affect whether the warning expires as expected. See YouTube’s Community Guidelines strike basics for its explanation of warnings, strikes, training, and appeals.

If YouTube has restricted live streaming

If your notice says live access is disabled, treat that restriction—not the fact that you received a warning—as the deciding factor. Wait until the restriction ends or follow the appeal instructions in the notice. YouTube prohibits using another channel to stream while a live-stream restriction is active; doing so may be treated as circumvention. Its live-stream restriction guidance explains the restriction and ban-evasion rules.

A first Community Guidelines strike’s posting penalty lasts one week from acknowledgement. Separately, YouTube’s live-stream help describes a 14-day penalty for a live-stream strike or restriction where applicable. Check the enforcement notice for the rule and duration applied to your account rather than assuming these penalties are interchangeable.

Can you keep the channel running while access is unavailable?

If you have a live-stream restriction, do not use a second channel or another streaming setup to evade it. Once you are eligible to stream again, a cloud service can keep an already uploaded video looping on YouTube without leaving a computer running. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams made from uploaded videos; it does not resolve a restriction or restore live access. You still need to follow YouTube’s rules and have permission to stream.
