Yes—in some configurations. An AI browser agent may be able to use a website session that is already signed in, but this depends on the product and mode. OpenAI says Atlas Agent mode can use sites signed in through its current browsing session. ChatGPT Cloud Browser uses a separate session and does not reuse sign-ins from your personal browser; you sign in separately when needed. These are product-specific examples, not a rule for every AI browser.
What “access” means
There are three separate questions: whether the browser can reach an authenticated page, what information or actions its agent can use there, and whether a consequential action requires your confirmation. A signed-in session can let an agent see account pages and use supported site features, but it does not mean every agent can perform every transaction. Website restrictions and product safeguards differ.

OpenAI says some websites block automated access even when they work in a regular browser. Its documentation also describes safeguards for consequential actions, but those controls should not be treated as a guarantee that every site or action is covered.

Can an agent read email or take actions as you?
If an agent can access a signed-in page, it may be able to read account content and carry out actions that the site and product support. That could include working with information displayed in an account, but the exact capabilities depend on the browser, site and permissions in effect.

Permission to visit a site is not the same as approval to make a commitment there. ChatGPT Cloud Browser distinguishes website-access permission from confirmation for consequential steps such as payments or bookings. Atlas documentation says the agent pauses on certain sensitive sites, including financial institutions. These safeguards differ by product and do not establish that every action will trigger the same prompt.
Why signed-in access still carries risk
Page content can try to manipulate the agent
A webpage may contain hostile instructions designed to make an agent reveal information or send it elsewhere. OpenAI warns that prompt injection could lead an agent to request an attacker-controlled URL with sensitive data embedded in it; the value could appear in the recipient’s server logs even if it never appears in the agent’s response. A logged-out mode avoids access through pre-existing cookies, and a separate cloud session does not import the personal browser’s sign-ins, passwords, tabs or extensions. Those boundaries can reduce what is immediately available to an agent. They do not make all browsing risk-free: you may sign in within the session, and web content can still be untrusted.

How to limit account exposure
- Choose the least-connected session that can do the task. For work that does not need account data, use a logged-out mode or separate browser session if the product offers one.
- Check the session model before signing in. Find out whether the agent uses the current browser profile or a separate remote profile, and whether the session persists between tasks.
- Verify the sign-in page. Check the exact website address and sign-in form before entering credentials. Use the site’s secure sign-in flow; do not paste passwords, authentication codes or payment details into the chat.
- Review what you are authorizing. Treat permission to open a site separately from permission to purchase, send a message, change account settings or submit a form. Read each confirmation prompt before approving it.
- Stop if the agent goes somewhere unexpected. Do not approve a consequential action when the destination or information is wrong. If you do not want a saved session to persist, clear the relevant site’s browser data; in Cloud Browser, clearing site data signs you out.
- Review the product’s privacy controls. Atlas documents page-visibility, incognito, history and data deletion, and browser-memory controls. Incognito does not make activity invisible: third parties, employers, schools or internet providers may still see it, and ChatGPT may retain signed-out chats separately for abuse prevention. The practical answer
Do not assume that an AI browser either can or cannot use your logged-in accounts. Check whether its current mode shares your browser session or uses a separate one, what site access it has, and which actions require your approval. Keep account sign-in out of tasks that do not need it, and review sensitive steps yourself.
