No. EndeavorRx, the best-established example of a prescription ADHD video game, is intended as an add-on within a broader care plan—not as a replacement for medication, therapy, or educational support. Whether it is appropriate for a child is a decision to make with the treating clinician.
What “an ADHD video game” means
EndeavorRx is a prescription digital therapeutic delivered through a video game experience. It is not the same as an ordinary commercial game marketed as helpful for focus. Its stated intended population is children aged 8–17 with primarily inattentive or combined-type ADHD who have a demonstrated attention issue; a healthcare professional must prescribe it. Its indication should not be generalized to adults, all children with ADHD, or games that have not been authorized for this use.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration describes the device category this way: “A digital therapy device for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a software intended to provide therapy for ADHD or any of its individual symptoms as an adjunct to clinician supervised treatment.” The word “adjunct” is central: this category is designed to accompany clinician-supervised care.
What EndeavorRx is intended to do—and what that does not prove
EndeavorRx’s stated aim is to improve attention function measured by computer-based testing. That is a narrower outcome than treating ADHD as a whole. The manufacturer cautions that gains in digitally assessed sustained and selective attention do not necessarily mean that typical behavioral symptoms, such as hyperactivity, will improve.

The manufacturer says five clinical studies involving more than 600 children with ADHD supported the product’s authorization. That figure describes the participants across those studies; it is not a measure of how many children benefit, nor proof that the game improves every ADHD symptom or replaces established care. The evidence summaries are manufacturer materials, not an independent systematic review.
In two supporting trials, the manufacturer reports that 17 of 342 participants receiving AKL-T01 experienced treatment-related adverse events (4.97%). This is a trial-specific, manufacturer-reported figure, not a guarantee of safety for every child or a population-wide estimate. Families should review the product information and discuss potential risks and fit with the prescriber.

How it fits alongside established pediatric care
EndeavorRx product information says it should be considered as part of a broader therapeutic program that may include clinician-directed therapy, medication, and educational programs. It therefore should not be used as a reason to stop, reduce, or postpone another part of a child’s care without the treating clinician’s guidance.
The American Academy of Pediatrics’ 2019 guideline describes age-specific recommendations rather than one plan for every child:
Rank #3
| Age group | AAP recommendation |
|---|---|
| Preschool-aged children | Evidence-based parent training and/or behavioral classroom interventions are first-line treatment. |
| Children aged 6–11 | FDA-approved ADHD medication together with parent training and/or behavioral classroom intervention; preferably both behavioral approaches. |
| Adolescents aged 12–17 | FDA-approved medication with the adolescent’s assent; evidence-based training and/or behavioral interventions are encouraged. |
The guideline also describes educational interventions and individualized instructional supports as necessary parts of pediatric treatment plans. Individual circumstances, preferences, and clinical needs affect the plan. For children aged 6 to the 12th birthday, the AAP states that the primary care clinician should prescribe FDA-approved ADHD medication “along with PTBM and/or behavioral classroom intervention (preferably both PTBM and behavioral classroom interventions).”

- Does the child match EndeavorRx’s stated age and ADHD-presentation criteria, and is there a demonstrated attention issue?
- What outcome is the clinician hoping to address, and how will progress be assessed beyond performance on computer-based attention testing?
- How would the game fit with the child’s current medication, behavioral supports, therapy, and school-based supports?
- What should the family do if the child finds the game difficult, experiences unwanted effects, or does not appear to benefit?
Do not change medication or therapy based on a game or an article. Ask the clinician responsible for the child’s care before making treatment changes.
