No. A YouTube playlist or scheduled live stream does not keep broadcasting after the encoder feed stops. If your home computer is encoding and sending the video, turning it off stops that feed. To keep a YouTube broadcast going without the computer, another active encoder must send video—such as a standalone hardware encoder or a cloud service.
Scheduling a stream creates a watch page and lets viewers set reminders; it does not transmit video by itself. A playlist also should not be assumed to automatically start one live broadcast after another. YouTube’s documentation does not establish that handoff behavior.

What happens when the home computer turns off?
The encoder is the source that sends video to YouTube. If software on your home computer is encoding the video, shutting down that computer ends its encoder feed. Scheduling the event or adding it to a playlist does not replace the feed or keep it alive.
YouTube distinguishes scheduling from transmission in its encoder setup guidance. It also explains that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when the encoder stream ends. An archive is a recording of the finished stream, not a continuation of the live broadcast.

You can add any custom text, image or logo on the stream at any location, claiming your video content with ease. The product includes lifetime free technical support service, please feel free to contact us.
- Cloud-Based HDMI Encoder: The mini hardware encoder can be controlled via web UI and DDMALL Cloud System. With DDMALL Cloud, no matter where you are, you can remotely control and monitor your encoder when there is Internet connection.
Can YouTube automatically play the next stream in a playlist?
Do not rely on a YouTube playlist to chain separate live broadcasts. YouTube’s reviewed help pages describe scheduling, encoder connection, and stream controls, but do not establish that the next live stream in a playlist starts automatically when the current one ends. For a continuous broadcast, the active source and encoder need to keep sending video to the same live event, or a separate setup must start and send the next feed.
Ways to keep a YouTube stream running without the home computer
| Option | What it does | What must remain active |
|---|---|---|
| Standalone hardware encoder | A dedicated device encodes and sends video. YouTube describes standalone encoders and lists the AJA HELO Plus; it also notes optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. | The encoder, its video source or scheduled media, power, and a reliable network connection. |
| Cloud streaming service | A service runs the uploaded video and sends the feed from the cloud, rather than relying on the home computer. | The cloud service and its connection to YouTube. StreamNeo is one such option for uploaded-video loops on YouTube. |
| Another computer or streaming setup | A different computer or active streaming setup takes over the encoding and transmission. | That device, its streaming software or source, power, and a reliable network connection. |
YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover webcam, mobile, software encoder, and hardware encoder approaches. Choose based on whether you need a live camera/source or scheduled prerecorded media, and on where the encoder and network connection will run. The AJA capability mentioned above is specifically YouTube’s documented description of that model; it should not be generalized to every hardware encoder.

- 4K & HD STREAMING IN H.264 AND H.265 – Self-contained processor supporting H.264 and H.265 encoding in HD or Ultra HD (up to 2160p60) via SRT or RTMP, streaming directly to YouTube, Facebook, X, Twitch, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, OBS, Wowza, and many more — no encoding PC needed.
- 12G-SDI INPUT WITH STANDARDS CONVERSION – Supports input resolutions up to DCI 4K60 with an SDI input and SDI loop output, plus Teranex-powered automatic standards conversion so any HD or Ultra HD source streams cleanly at any target resolution.
- DUAL MONITOR OUTPUTS – Features both SDI and HDMI monitor outputs with a user-configurable standards converter on both the 12G-SDI Out and 4K HDMI Out, so you can feed a confidence monitor or downstream device at any required format independent of your streaming standard.
- ETHERNET + 5G/4G MOBILE WITH AUTO-FAILOVER – Connect via Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BASE-T) or tether a smartphone via USB-C for mobile data, with automatic switchover between connections — ensuring your stream stays on air even if the primary internet connection drops.
- CLOSED CAPTIONS, TIMECODE & REST API – Supports embedding CEA-608 and CEA-708 closed captions in live RTMP streams, source timecode over RTMP and SRT, and offers a REST API over Ethernet for external HTTP control — ideal for broadcast automation and accessibility-compliant workflows.
Preparing a YouTube encoder stream
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Check access before planning the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guide
- Schedule the event if viewers need a watch page. In YouTube Studio, create and schedule the live stream, then use the event’s stream settings to connect the encoder. Scheduling helps viewers find the event; the encoder still has to send the video. See Manage live stream settings.
- Connect the encoder using the stream URL and key. Enter the stream details shown for the event in the encoder. Treat the stream key as private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to the stream. YouTube explains the connection in its encoder setup instructions.
- Set up early and start before the scheduled time. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least 2 hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. These are YouTube’s preparation recommendations, not guarantees of connection or uptime. YouTube streaming tips
- Check the feed and monitor it. Confirm that YouTube receives the intended video and that the stream is healthy before relying on it. Keep the encoder and its network connection active for the duration; YouTube recommends reliable connectivity and monitoring the stream. Its guidance recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate. Streaming tips
Or let it run in the cloud
For uploaded videos rather than a live camera, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live by looping uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your home computer does not need to stay on.

- Efficient SRT Streaming: With built-in H.265 and H.264 SRT protocol, the video encoder secures your end-to-end IP video streaming and broadcasting reliably at low latency in 2K@60Hz resolution. It is compatible third-party SRT hardware and software decoder.
- Record & Download: The 3G SDI encoder supports real-time video recording, storage and downloading. By inserting the SD card, you can conveniently record your live content and store at local for playback and sharing. And you can edit the OSD in real time during streaming, add any custom text, image or logo at any location.
Common problems and what to check
- The scheduled page exists, but viewers see no live video: Scheduling does not send a feed. Check that an encoder is connected and transmitting.
- The stream ends when the laptop shuts down: The laptop was the active encoder. Move encoding to a hardware device or cloud service, or keep another streaming setup active.
- The next item in a playlist does not start: A playlist is not documented as an automatic handoff mechanism between live broadcasts. Arrange for an active encoder or service to send the next feed.
- The stream disconnects or looks unstable: Check the encoder and network, monitor YouTube’s stream status, and ensure available upload bandwidth exceeds the stream bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% headroom in its streaming tips.
- The stream ends but a recording appears: That is archiving, not continued broadcasting. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when the encoder feed ends. Encoder guide
What to choose
Use a standalone hardware encoder if you want a device at your location and need its documented source or prerecorded-media capabilities. Use a cloud service if the goal is to loop uploaded videos without keeping a home computer active. For a camera-based live source, confirm that the particular encoder or service supports that source; StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and does not broadcast a live camera.
