1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesGenerally, no: Bitcoin has no protocol-level undo or chargeback for a confirmed transaction. The recipient can choose to return the funds, but that return is a separate transaction. A confirmed transaction is not absolutely permanent in every conceivable circumstance—a chain reorganization or serious network or software failure could replace the accepted history—but the more confirmations it has, the harder that becomes.
What “confirmed” means
A transaction has zero confirmations while it is waiting to be included in a block. Once a block containing it is accepted into the chain, it has one confirmation; each subsequent block adds another. Confirmation means the transaction is part of the currently accepted history, not that no event could ever change that history.

Bitcoin blocks link to earlier blocks using hashes. Changing a transaction in an older block would require replacing that block and the blocks built on top of it. Proof of work makes that task increasingly difficult as the chain grows. The Bitcoin Developer Guide’s explanation of the block chain describes this mechanism; the guide’s payment-verification section explains why replacing a confirmed transaction is difficult.

No. Bitcoin has no central payment operator that can issue a conventional chargeback or compel the recipient to return coins. Bitcoin.org puts the distinction plainly: “A Bitcoin transaction cannot be reversed, it can only be refunded by the person receiving the funds.” If you paid the wrong address or sent the wrong amount, contact the recipient and ask for a voluntary refund. Any return is a new transaction, not an undo of the original payment.

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
A wallet provider or other support team may be able to explain what happened, but the Bitcoin network cannot make the recipient refund the payment. Escrow or multisignature arrangements can help manage risk before a payment is made; they do not reverse a transaction that has already been confirmed. See Bitcoin.org’s consumer guidance.
Why unconfirmed payments are riskier
Before a transaction is included in a block, a spender may broadcast a competing transaction that uses the same input. The network ultimately accepts one spend in its chain; an unconfirmed payment therefore has not yet gained the protection of block inclusion. After confirmation, replacing the transaction means changing the accepted chain history rather than simply winning a race between unconfirmed transactions.

For a seller deciding whether to release goods or services, the useful distinction is not just “paid” versus “unpaid”: check whether the transaction is confirmed, how many confirmations it has, and how much value or fraud exposure is involved. A zero-confirmation payment should not be treated as secure when the payer is untrusted.
How many confirmations are enough?
There is no count that guarantees a transaction can never be displaced. Confirmation thresholds are practical risk decisions: a higher-value or fraud-sensitive payment warrants more caution than a low-risk transfer. Bitcoin.org gives the following guidance, which is advice from that site rather than a protocol rule:

|---|---|
| 0 | Safe only if the payer is trusted |
| 1 | “Somewhat reliable” for lightweight wallets; “mostly reliable” for Bitcoin Core |
| 3 | “Mostly reliable” for lightweight wallets; “highly reliable” for Bitcoin Core |

The Bitcoin Developer Guide also describes six confirmations as a rough recommendation for high-value or fraud-sensitive payments, while calling the threshold somewhat arbitrary. Neither six nor any other count is an absolute finality guarantee.
How long does confirmation take?
Bitcoin.org says new blocks arrive about every 10 minutes on average. That is an average, not a schedule: an individual block can arrive sooner or later, with no guaranteed minimum or maximum wait. A fee that is low relative to current network priorities can make the wait for a first confirmation longer. Confirmation timing guidance is available in Bitcoin.org’s overview.

Could a confirmed transaction ever be displaced?
Yes, in an exceptional chain reorganization or in the event of a serious network or implementation failure, the history considered valid by the network could change. This is the technical qualification behind saying that Bitcoin transactions are practically irreversible rather than physically impossible to reverse. Each additional confirmation raises the work required to replace the history, but it does not turn that risk into a universal mathematical zero.

Those are design assumptions, not a current probability estimate for a particular payment. The paper is available at Bitcoin.org.

The cited guidance does not establish one current reversal probability that applies to every transaction. Risk depends on confirmation depth, transaction value and circumstances, and network conditions; old or hypothetical model calculations should not be mistaken for present-day measurements.
