A 24/7 YouTube live stream can loop prerecorded videos without using a YouTube channel playlist. An encoder or cloud streaming service can handle the video sequence upstream and send the resulting live feed to YouTube. The key distinction: this is not the same as using YouTube’s playback Loop control, which repeats a video or playlist for someone watching it.
What “without a playlist” means
A YouTube playlist organizes videos on your channel. It is not inherently required for a continuous live feed: a compatible encoder or cloud service can manage prerecorded material and send the feed to YouTube Live. YouTube’s encoder guide names Gyre as one cloud-based example for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos: YouTube’s encoder guide.
YouTube’s built-in Loop control is a separate viewer-side feature. It repeats a video or playlist during ordinary playback; it does not turn channel videos into a live broadcast. See YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists.
Ways to run a prerecorded 24/7 live stream
Cloud streaming service
A service designed for continuous prerecorded-video streaming can host the loop and deliver it as a live feed. YouTube’s encoder documentation names Gyre as an example, but that listing alone does not establish a provider’s current settings, supported formats, prices, or limits; check the provider’s current instructions before choosing it.

Local encoder
YouTube defines encoders as software apps or standalone hardware. A local encoder can send a feed to YouTube without a YouTube playlist, but encoder capability varies: the available guidance does not establish that every encoder can automatically repeat video files. Confirm that your chosen encoder supports continuous playback and file looping before relying on it.
Set up and verify the YouTube live feed
- Check channel eligibility first. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Choose a route that supports your intended loop. Use a cloud service that explicitly handles continuous prerecorded-video streaming, or a local encoder configured to repeat the source. Verify its own current setup instructions; the general encoder category does not guarantee a particular looping feature.
- Create or manage the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder or service as its destination details. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Test before committing to a long run. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, picture, and audio. YouTube advises testing and monitoring quality during operation; do not assume a successful connection alone means the feed is working correctly. - Plan for the limits of long broadcasts. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable, and a complete automatic archive should not be assumed. See YouTube’s live-stream DVR and archive guidance.
What to compare before choosing a method
Compare the work the service or encoder actually takes off your hands, rather than treating “playlist” as a universal requirement. - Looping: Does the method explicitly support repeating prerecorded files continuously?
- Where it runs: Does it require your computer or hardware to stay on, or does a provider host the feed?
- Operations: What stream-health monitoring and recovery options are included?
- Inputs and limits: Check supported file formats, storage, stream quality, and any provider-specific restrictions in its current documentation.
- Playback expectations: Decide whether viewers need to rewind or replay the full broadcast; YouTube’s archive and DVR behavior can constrain that for very long streams.
