CameraFi Live and Restream solve different problems. CameraFi Live is aimed at phone-led broadcasts, overlays and external cameras; Restream provides a workflow for connecting YouTube to its streaming service, including for creators distributing a production across platforms. Neither product’s cited documentation establishes that it can guarantee continuous, 24/7 uptime. If by “keeping a channel live” you mean leaving prerecorded video looping around the clock, that is a different use case from either a phone broadcast or ordinary multistreaming.
CameraFi Live vs Restream at a glance
| Need | Better fit to investigate | What the available documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|

This is a workflow comparison, not a controlled test of features or reliability. The cited sources provide no comparative uptime measurements or service-level uptime guarantee for CameraFi Live or Restream.

Routine phone-led broadcasts
Choose CameraFi Live as the more direct workflow to examine if you film and produce on a phone and want overlays or an external camera. Its July 11, 2025 guide walks through signing in, selecting YouTube, entering stream details and creating a stream. Check CameraFi’s current device and platform compatibility before setting up, since support may vary by device and version. CameraFi’s setup guide

Restream is more relevant if the production already exists in an encoder or other workflow and you want to add YouTube through Restream. YouTube calls this simulstreaming and requires a verified channel with live streaming enabled, accounts in good standing on other platforms, and sufficient upload speed. The retrieved YouTube guidance does not give a bandwidth figure for a particular resolution or number of destinations, so size your connection for your actual setup. Continuous prerecorded playback
If you want uploaded recordings to loop while your computer is off, neither phone broadcasting nor the cited Restream setup guide demonstrates that specific capability. StreamNeo is the relevant option here: it loops uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud to YouTube, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. It does not broadcast from a live camera.
Prepare the YouTube channel before connecting either service
- Enable live streaming early. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Do not wait until the planned broadcast to request access. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance
- Confirm the account can authorize the workflow. Restream says the user must own the YouTube channel being added; a manager or editor is not sufficient for its channel connection flow. Sign in with the owner account if using Restream. Restream’s YouTube guide
- Check verification and account standing. YouTube’s simulstreaming guidance calls for a verified channel with live streaming enabled and active accounts in good standing on any other platforms involved.
- Allow time for setup and a private test. Verify that the selected service can connect to the intended channel and that audio, video, overlays and destination settings behave as expected before a public broadcast.
Set encoder output to YouTube’s current guidance
If your workflow uses an encoder, follow YouTube’s current settings for the target resolution and frame rate rather than assuming CameraFi or Restream removes encoder requirements. YouTube’s retrieved guidance recommends H.264 video, CBR, frame rates up to 60 fps, a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), AAC or MP3 audio, and RTMPS for encrypted transport. Exact bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate; consult the current table in YouTube’s guide instead of applying one bitrate to every stream. YouTube encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions

For a direct encoder connection, YouTube’s setup flow supplies a server URL and stream key. Put those into the encoder’s corresponding fields, protect the key as a credential, then start the encoder; YouTube receives the broadcast once the encoder sends content. Do not publish or share the stream key. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The available CameraFi and Restream pages describe product workflows, not comparative reliability. They do not prove that either will keep a channel continuously live or provide a service-level uptime commitment. Treat uninterrupted operation as unestablished unless a vendor’s current terms explicitly promise it.

YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, according to its encoder help; Restream repeats this archive rule in its YouTube guide, updated July 9, 2026. This is an archive threshold, not a maximum stream duration and not evidence of continuous availability. Restream says YouTube has no duration limit, while streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Restream’s YouTube guide

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use CameraFi Live and Restream together?
CameraFi published a Restream integration guide in 2020, but that guide alone does not confirm the integration is currently supported. Check both services’ current documentation before relying on it.
Does a YouTube stream need to be shorter than 12 hours?
No. The under-12-hour figure describes automatic archiving, not a maximum stream duration.
