If CameraFi Live stops when your Android screen turns off, first find out whether the video pauses, the app closes, or the live broadcast drops. Test screen timeout and manual locking separately, then repeat while charging. These checks can narrow down the cause, but no single Android setting is a guaranteed fix: the result can depend on your phone, Android version, and CameraFi build.
First identify what is stopping
CameraFi Live can use video files as a broadcast source, but CameraFi’s public guide does not promise that playback will continue after the phone is locked. Watch for which of these outcomes occurs:

- The source video pauses: CameraFi may no longer be playing the file in the background.
- CameraFi closes or becomes unavailable: The phone may be restricting the app’s background activity, or the app may be encountering another problem.
- The video keeps playing but the broadcast ends or disconnects: The outgoing stream or network connection may be the issue rather than local playback.
Those distinctions matter: a fix for a background restriction will not necessarily address a dropped network stream, and a broadcast can end even if the source video has not visibly paused.
Test timeout, lock, and charging separately
- Start the same video with CameraFi visible. Confirm that this source plays normally before changing phone settings.
- Temporarily increase the screen timeout. Leave CameraFi in the foreground and wait for the display to turn off on its own. Note whether the source video, app, or broadcast stops.
- Test manual locking separately. Start again, then lock the phone yourself. If playback survives timeout but stops after manual lock, record that difference.
- Repeat while plugged into power and on a stable network. Compare the result with the unplugged test. A change while charging makes power management worth investigating; it does not prove that power management is the sole cause.
Change one condition at a time and use the same source video. That makes it easier to tell which event is associated with the interruption.

Check CameraFi’s battery and background settings
If the problem happens only after the screen locks, look in Android Settings for CameraFi’s battery-use or background-activity controls. The path and labels vary by phone maker and Android release. Depending on the device, you may find an option that allows unrestricted battery use or background activity for the app. If available, try allowing it, then repeat the lock test.
Treat this as a diagnostic, not a guaranteed workaround. Android’s foreground-service rules and its additional restrictions for camera and microphone use mean a battery setting cannot necessarily force an app to continue every kind of work in the background. CameraFi’s public materials do not explain how its current builds handle this specific screen-off case.

Why the screen turning off can matter
Android may enter Doze when a device is unplugged, stationary, and screen-off. Doze restricts network access and defers CPU and network work. Android’s platform documentation also says that connecting a charger or waking the screen exits Doze. That makes charging a useful comparison test, but it does not establish that Doze caused a particular CameraFi interruption.

Use CameraFi’s documented controls—and know their limits
CameraFi’s beginner guide describes its Video menu as supporting sources including the phone camera, an external USB camera, video files, and image files. Its public guide, FAQ, and screen-streaming tutorial describe app workflows, but they do not establish whether every CameraFi version supports continued video-file playback after Android locks the display. The Google Play listing likewise describes video files as a live-streaming source without guaranteeing screen-off playback. Store listing details can change.
These materials can help you check that you selected a video-file source and understand broadcast controls. They do not document a universal screen-off fix. Avoid assuming that a workflow for screen broadcasting or internal audio answers what happens to a prerecorded video source after lock.

Troubleshoot by the symptom

What to send CameraFi support
If the tests do not isolate a setting, contact CameraFi support with enough detail to reproduce the situation:
- CameraFi Live version and Android version
- Phone make and model
- Whether the source is a video file, camera, USB camera, or another source
- Whether the display timed out or you manually locked the phone
- Whether the source video paused, the app closed, or the broadcast ended
- Whether the result changed while charging, and what network you used
Give the exact sequence that causes the interruption. CameraFi’s public guides do not identify a confirmed fix for this specific behavior, so the answer may depend on your app build and device.
