They address different jobs, so the useful comparison is how each works and what authority and trust it requires—not which category is universally safer.
What is the practical difference?
In Cambio’s description, the user asks for a swap, supplies a destination address, and sends crypto to a one-time deposit address. The service returns the destination asset after processing the swap. An agentic wallet, by contrast, is a wallet paired with an agent that can execute transactions within permissions the user grants. One workflow centers on a swap between contexts; the other centers on actions involving assets already in a wallet.

- Describe the swap. Cambio says a conversational interface extracts structured details from a natural-language request, such as the assets and destination.
- Check the pair and quote. The service checks whether the requested pair is supported and presents a quote. Cambio says its AI parses and explains the request but deterministic code routes the swap.
- Send funds to a deposit address. The user sends crypto from wherever it is held to a one-time address provided for the transaction, rather than connecting a wallet for the service to sign transactions.
- Receive the output. The swapped asset is sent to the destination address the user supplied.
These are Cambio’s descriptions of its own service; its claims about implementation and performance have not been independently established here. Cambio’s About page describes the service as non-custodial and says it does not provide wallet accounts, fiat on-ramps or off-ramps, lending, staking, or yield-bearing products. Those are company statements, not an independent audit. Cambio’s About page

What is an agentic wallet?
Cambio describes an agentic wallet as a smart-contract wallet, or a wallet with similar capabilities, combined with an agent that executes transactions within granted scopes. The user authorizes wallet activity; the agent can then perform actions within the authority the wallet permits.
That authority can be shaped in different ways. Cambio gives limited-scope, expiring session keys as one example, and mentions MPC or trusted execution environments as possible key-protection approaches. It also describes agents running through a remote server, an MCP server, or an extension. These are possible architectures, not a universal definition or a guarantee that a particular wallet uses them. MetaMask likewise notes that agent-wallet designs vary and frames a core security goal as enabling software to interact with assets without granting unlimited authority. How the workflows and trust models compare
| Question | Cambio’s described model | Agentic-wallet model described in the sources |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | A single swap or transfer between contexts | Wallet-resident actions, potentially including multi-step operations |
| Where funds start | Wherever the user holds crypto; the user sends it to a one-time deposit address | In a wallet whose transactions the user authorizes |
| Wallet connection and signing | Cambio says its described flow does not connect to or sign with the user’s wallet | The agent executes transactions under wallet permissions |
| Agent’s role | Cambio says AI parses and explains the instruction while deterministic code routes the swap | The agent can execute transactions within the granted scope |
| Main trust considerations | The operator and settlement process | The wallet implementation, agent provider, permission scope, and controls |
| What to verify | Supported assets and chains, quote details, and settlement terms | Key control, permission limits, expiry, monitoring, revocation, and wallet-security documentation |
The table summarizes the cited descriptions; it is not a head-to-head test. A particular agentic wallet may not support every protocol action, and a particular swap service may have limits that are not captured by the category label.
Is one approach safer?
There is no basis here to call either architecture categorically safer. The trust is different, not absent. Cambio says its flow avoids wallet connections and session keys but places trust in its operator during settlement. An agentic wallet adds questions about the wallet implementation, the agent provider, the scope of permissions, and whether those permissions can be monitored and revoked. Cambio’s security framing is a company claim, not an independent security assessment.

When should you use an agentic wallet instead of a conversational swap service?

- Choose a wallet-based agent workflow for consideration when the task involves assets already in a wallet and requires wallet-resident or multi-step operations—and only if the wallet’s permissions and safeguards suit your needs.
- Consider Cambio’s described flow when you want to arrange a supported swap by sending funds from another context to a one-time deposit address and specifying where the output should go.
- Check current documentation before proceeding if the task depends on a particular chain, asset, protocol action, permission expiry, or recovery behavior. Category descriptions cannot confirm that a specific product supports your case.
What should you check before authorizing or sending funds?
For a deposit-address swap
- Confirm that the asset pair and networks are supported, and read the quote and settlement terms before sending.
- Verify the destination address and make sure it is on the intended network.
- Understand what the service says happens if settlement is delayed or the transaction fails; do not assume that a one-time address removes operator or settlement risk.
For an agentic wallet
- Read the wallet’s security documentation and understand how keys are controlled.
- Check exactly which assets and actions the agent can access, whether permissions are limited in scope or time, and how to revoke them.
- Look for transaction visibility and monitoring, and learn what happens if an action fails or the agent behaves unexpectedly.
- Assess the wallet implementation and agent provider separately: permission controls are only one part of the trust model.
These checks follow the risks and design questions identified in Cambio’s, Binance’s, and MetaMask’s materials. They do not substitute for product-specific documentation or an independent audit.
