Building a cricket website is not just a matter of displaying scores. In a first-person account published on September 22, 2026, DEV Community author medialinkstudio describes how DesiCricketAdda grew from a wish for a leaner, faster cricket experience into a site for scores, news and discussion—and what changed when live data, match-day traffic, search visibility and phone use became practical constraints.
What DesiCricketAdda set out to do
Medialinkstudio describes the project as a response to a familiar problem: wanting a faster, less cluttered way to follow cricket. The result, in the author’s account, was a website combining live scores with news and discussion. The post is a personal account of decisions and lessons, not an independently verified case study; implementation details below are attributed to the author.

Why the author chose a familiar stack
The author says DesiCricketAdda’s frontend uses React, its backend uses Node.js with Express, and MongoDB stores match data, player statistics and articles. Familiarity was the deciding factor: the author wanted to move quickly rather than learn an unfamiliar stack while building the site.
That choice reflects the project’s circumstances, not a claim that these tools are uniquely suited to cricket sites. The account does not provide a comparison with other frameworks or databases.
#1 Best Overall
- IT'S A LIGHT STRATEGY GAME WITH A TOUCH OF LUCK. Players take on the role of one of eight cricket teams competing in a championship. In each round, players bat and bowl one over using six dice. As the game progresses, players gain experience, allowing them to enhance their skills. The game lasts for five rounds (45-60 minutes) and offers four different ways to earn winning points.
- 2–5 PLAYERS, DESIGNED FOR ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE. The game is made for both cricket fans and newcomers. No cricket knowledge is required to play, but the game can be a fun way to learn the basics! Its mechanics are easy to pick up while offering enough depth to keep things interesting across multiple plays.
- KICKSTARTED AND COMMUNITY-TESTED. The game was funded on Kickstarter by a global community of board gamers and cricket lovers. It’s been playtested across age groups and regions, with feedback helping refine gameplay into a smooth, balanced experience.
- HIGH REPLAYABILITY WITH MULTIPLE STRATEGIES. Will you go for high-risk sixes or a slow build-up with power cards? With each match playing out differently, no two games are ever the same. The more you play, the deeper your strategy gets.
How live-score delivery evolved
Moving API polling off the browser
The first version, according to medialinkstudio, had each client request scores from a third-party API every 10 seconds. The author says this put pressure on the API and felt sluggish under load. The interval is a detail of that initial implementation, not a general recommendation or performance benchmark.
Using server-side polling, caching and WebSockets
The author says the next approach moved polling to the server, cached score results and sent updates to connected browsers over WebSockets. In this design, browsers receive updates from the site rather than each independently polling the external provider. The account does not report measured request savings, update latency or a controlled comparison, but it identifies the trade-off clearly: the delivery path has to balance external API load, score freshness and how responsive the page feels.

- Cricket Showdown is a fast-paced, easy-to-learn cricket card game that brings the excitement of real cricket into quick, fun matches. Designed for kids, teens, and families, the game combines strategy, luck, and classic cricket moments like runs, wickets, and boundaries. Each round is quick and energetic, making it perfect for family game night, parties, classrooms, or travel. With simple rules and short playtime, Cricket Showdown is easy for beginners to learn while still engaging for experienced cricket fans.
Preparing for the busiest moments
Cricket traffic does not necessarily arrive evenly. Medialinkstudio describes spikes around match starts and close finishes, and says the site struggled during a tense chase. In response, the author added Redis in front of database calls, moved static assets to a CDN and introduced basic rate limiting.
The practical lesson is to plan for match-day peaks rather than rely on average traffic as the capacity target. The author’s concise formulation was: “Don’t optimize for average traffic — optimize for your worst-case spike, because that’s the moment users actually judge you.”

Caching reduces repeated work, but for scores it also raises a product question: how old can a cached value be before it misleads someone following a live match? The post emphasizes making that staleness decision explicit. It does not specify a cache lifetime or a universal acceptable delay, so those limits need to be set for the site’s own data source and user expectations.
Connecting search visibility with performance
For search and page delivery, the author reports adopting server-side rendering, adding structured data for match results, using cleaner URLs and compressing images. These are presented as connected improvements: render useful content for search engines, make match pages legible in their URLs and structured data, and avoid unnecessary image weight.

Designing for phone users and weak connections
Medialinkstudio says close to 80% of DesiCricketAdda’s visitors used phones, based on the author’s own analytics. That figure describes this site as reported in the 2026 post; it is not a general statistic about cricket audiences.

The author says the mobile experience was shaped by small screens and patchy connections during matches. Changes included a simplified scorecard for narrow displays, lazy loading of content below the fold and keeping the live-score widget lightweight. Together, these choices focus the initial view on the information a reader is most likely to need while limiting the work required to load it.
What the account does—and does not—establish
The post offers a useful record of practical choices made while building one cricket website: use tools the builder already knows, avoid making every browser query a third-party score API, decide how stale cached scores may be, and treat match peaks and mobile constraints as design conditions. It does not independently verify the current live site, provide load-test results, or establish that the same architecture will suit every cricket project.
